2" Bat out of hell
#1
After recycling some parts and tearing down another quad I built a 2" beast.

Parts:
  • Lumenier 2" piko frame
  • Foxeer Cat 2 Micro
  • Geprc stable pro stack (minus vtx)
  • tbs unify pro nano
  • tbs crossfire nano
  • iflight 1404 motors
  • 2540 props!!!
The vtx on the stack was giving me a ton of noise. I think it has to do with the stupid pins that join the boards. So I threw a unify in instead. I hacked a 3d mount for the camera. The crossfire slides right underneath, the tbs vtx is on the bottom mounted with vhb tape. My 3d print was a bit tight in design, had to sand the m2 plastic nuts a bit to fit ;-)

As a result of the super tight build I managed to squeeze 2.5" props on. They barely clear but they do work!

Dry weight is 95g, motors make up 40g. A tad heavy but this thing has more then enough juice to compensate. Even managed to throw a 1300mah 4s on it for 7-8 minute flight time.

It is fast and unruly but a ton of fun. I love the 2.1mm camera. Super clean and great at night.

I'd like to see a photo with the 4S 1300mAh LiPo attached to it. That must be almost bigger than the quad Big Grin

yeah it was way too much, it flies but all that weight makes it hard to throw around turns. I'll get a picture up when I'm back home.

For now enjoy this pic of a 3" gecko with a 1300mah 6s. This actually flew a lot better, probably because of the top mounted battery. A total bottle rocket. Motors were really hot though.

PS: I put toes on that one so I could tickle the sky ;-)

Looks like a lot of fun! But yeah, I had to read that “1300mah 4S” to make sure I read it correctly. It would have to fly a lot better with a smaller battery.

Funny I'd went the other way on a recent build. 1108 7000kv, 2s with 3inch 3016 props. Light prop loading and high head speed It's a surprisingly good balance for light build.

What's the kv on these 1404''s do you get enough prop speed or just run crazy high pitch to make up for it.

Fwiw, not running 1300mah by default ? I’ve found the 4s tattu 450mah or 650mah (pushing it) to be what I’m settling on.

I’m getting plenty of prop speed (4600kv) with gemfan 2540s. This wasn’t a planned build but a tear down of a DC2 which is pretty heavy with the dji air unit with smaller props. 3s is ok but 4s rips. With the bigger camera and bottom battery it does seem surprisingly well balanced.

Creating a youtube channel is on my todo list, hopefully I can start getting some reference videos up soon. I’m doing a lot of unorthodox stuff. Just having fun experimenting.
