Introducing the BD Bat & BD Cat 110mm frames
#1
Hey guys, just discovered a fractured arm on my Bat 100 frame, annoyingly I was just increasing the hole size to mount the SunnySky motors when I discovered it. I'm still going to attempt to fly it as is, at this stage, it is only slightly more flexible than the other arms...

It did give me an idea though...

I have been working on my own design 4" frame which is almost done, so I will be uploading the component designs and ordering from 'Armattan Productions'. Considering some of the components of the 4" frame will be using the same 1.5mm CF as the Bat 100, I thought I would just design a replacement frame for the Bat and place an order for Armattan to cut and send, along with the 4". It's possible that the CF from Armattan may well be of superior quality over what Full Speed use too...

So as I fired up Sketchup to get to work on the design a thought occurred - I wonder... Has there been any thrust tests for brushless 1s motors with different length props? And it turns out there has! The vid shows KingKong (65mm) props generating almost 5g more thrust than the Ladybird (55mm) props, on the 0703 10000kV Racerstar @ 1S (not SunnySky, and not the 0705 15000kV either). There wasn't any tests with Parrot rolling spider (65mm) props or the 66mm Eachine QX106 props which might give good results too. Larger props generally draw more amps, but I have bought 1S 600mAh nanotech and TGY graphene batteries so the extra capacity and C rating should help.

The problem is the Bat 100 arms are too short to run 65mm or 66mm, props, so...

Introducing The BD Bat-110 and the BD Cat 110

These are not the same 'stretched X' as the original.

The BD Bat motor spacing is almost a perfect 'true X' despite the 'squashed X' looking config...

...and the BD (dead) Cat (again) despite appearances actually has less than 0.5mm additional distance motor to motor over the BD Bat

Both of these will have less prop in the FPV image, they also have the same hole spacing as the chassis of the original Bat and therefore support a straight move over from frame to frame. I haven't designed a top plate for either of these yet, but they will work with the top plate from the original. I was thinking of a top plate with a hole cut for the buzzer to poke out of so it could actually fit inside the body.

I was also considering making a design with a slightly longer body to accommodate this AIO 1S FC, 5A ESC, w/ OSD which is only 3.1g, maybe adding provision for a micro sparrow?

Anybody have any ideas to add?

Just calculating, with a micro sparrow + VTX at about 7.1g, the AIO FC, ESC + buzzer linked above at 3.1g, 1.1g for a micro RX and 3g per (sunnysky 0705 15000kV) motor plus (just under) 4.75g for either of the above chassis gives us (7.1 + 3.1 + 1.1 + 12 + 4.75) = 28.05g excluding standoffs, props and top plate. So we are not far off the original (30g exc. RX) weight of the Bat 100, and at around $95 for these components (minus the frame) we aren't too far off the price either!

Let me know if you are interested and I will share the links and prices when I get the OK from Armattan.

So I have stretched out the 'dead cat' chassis of the BD Cat 110 (it's actually 113mm after the stretch) to take the AIO FC & ESC board, so it needed a new top plate -

Just came across this DVR at 2.3g, thought that it might even go on board with the RC micro Sparrow even with the TX200 VTX we have FPV and onboard DVR under 10g! thats 12g less than the split, obviously no 1080p @ 60fps but still no interference in captured footage...

Designs uploaded to Armattan...

Weights including top plate, but no standoffs, electrics etc.
Bat 1.5mm chassis 5.86g
Cat 1.5mm chassis 7.34g
Bat 2mm chassis 7.44
Cat 2mm chassis 9.2g

Also thought that the 'Dead Cat' frame could do with a bit more er pronunciation!?

There is a guy local to me who does micro vinyl projects actually... Thinking

If anyone wants to try out the Bat or Cat frames, the designs have been accepted and are available from 'my store' at Armattan Productions ($10 for the 1.5mm chassis + top plate kit, $8.50 for the 2mm chassis individually) bear in mind that they are still untested so the mounting holes for the stack or camera mount might need to be enlarged? I will be ordering mine soon so watch this space...

Just an FYI, the measurement specs for the 0705 sunnysky's say that the shaft protrudes from the bottom of the motor, but the C-clip also protrudes, I have taken this into account in the design so there should be no contact between any of the rotating parts of the motors and the frame.

For some reason the 2mm Cat chassis is not showing as available yet..?

I mentioned the Happymodel 0706 15000kV motors in my Bat-100 review thread, they are about $2.50 per motor cheaper on BG than the sunnysky's, now I just found them almost $2 cheaper again from HiModel.com, they are on Back Order, and shipping is $5 to me in South Africa making them about the same price as ordering from BG, but shipping might be cheaper to other places?

Edit to add - shipping from himodel is $5 USD up to 2kg

Nice frames Tom!

Will these accept the 6.5mm mounting pattern of the Sunnysky 0705 motors?

Thanks man!
Yup, the 6.5mm diameter spacing using M1.6 mounting screws, is what they have been designed for. Note the measurement in the pic is for the radius of the mounting pattern, and Sketchup doesn't show the 2nd decimal, but the ~3.3mm shown, was input as (and does reflect) 3.25mm

Only recently noticed that Armattan recommend leaving 0.2 - 0.25mm tolerance for components that fit together, I'm not sure this applies to the screw size? I have measured & designed the screw holes to 1.6mm so it may be tight getting the screws through..?

Just took out the vernier to re-check the measurements of my sunnysky motors, and screws - 1.53mm thickness on the screw thread (so hopefully it should be OK) and the c-clip is 3.5mm. I gave the c-clip a bit more clearance (4.5mm), because I'm not sure the manufacturing tolerances on those, and despite the insinuation from this design printout on BG the clip does require clearance.

Unseen, you are pretty clued up about cloned products, I can't seem to find anything else that resembles this AIO FC & 5A ESC but BG being who they are, I would like to know for sure?

Also gotta mention that Armattan don't stock M2 nylon standoffs to include in the frame kit, and BG only have boxes of 120!

I saw that earlier. Quite a nice idea with both OSD and 1S 4-in-1 BLHeli_S ESC in the same board. I've not seen anything else that resembles it, so I don't think it's a clone of anything.

I've just placed my order for a BD Bat 110 kit and a 2mm plate as well, so I'll be transplanting the hardware I used on my Angry Oskie into the Bat. With decent sized props, I reckon the 0705 motors will give a much better showing than they do with the 40mm triblades. Thankfully, I have plenty of 2mm mounting hardware.

I used this stack on the Oskie: https://www.banggood.com/Teeny1S-F4-Flig...76420.html along with this AIO camera: https://www.banggood.com/5_8G-48CH-25mw-...64450.html

Cooool I have a guinea pig..! I will be ordering mine soon, I just got the OK for my (not so lightweight) 4" BD Cobra 185 design last night, I stupidly didn't check the files before uploading, and I cocked up the orientation of the side plate image again Doh So I'm just waiting on confirmation of that last component...

I really hope the BD Bat flies well...
The hardware should be perfect, that camera is about the same weight as the stock AIO cam and VTX that comes with the Bat.

Just FYI, the hole spacing for the camera mount is 11.5mm using M1 screws, if you need to 3D print one?

Thanks. I hadn't even started thinking about which camera I was going to use or how I was going to mount it yet, but when the frame arrives, I can start looking at that.
