YouTube Ads - What Is Going On?
#1
Is it just me or have other people also noticed in the last few days that when an ad pops up on a YouTube video, you get no skip button and you have to watch a 20-30 second ad all the way through before your chosen video starts playing. And sometimes this 20-30 second ad is followed immediately by another ad of ~60 seconds, also with no skip button. So I have to sit through a minute and a half of ads before I can watch the damn video I want to see.

This has happened on a ton of videos across the whole of this weekend so it's not just an isolated incident. It never used to happen and I can't ever remember previously not being able to skip an ad.

Does anyone know what's going on?

EDIT: I should add that this only affect's videos on YouTube itself and not embedded videos, but if you select to view an embedded video on the YouTube website by clicking on the YouTube logo in the video, you then get these annoying non-skippable ads Angry

If you use Chrome or a browser that allows extensions, download an ad blocker. I use U block for Chrome. Works great.

Yes, YouTube ads sometimes do not allow skipping.

Another vote for uBlock! I use uBlock Origin on Firefox and it makes the Internet usable again.

The ground is for dead people.

I have connected to my router a Raspberry Pi Zero W with Pi-Hole flashed in it to filter out ads for everyone who uses the internet in the apartment. However some youtube ads dont get filtered because they're with Youtube dns anyway.
A adblocker will do all the tricks in cost of a bit of speed.

Thanks guys, will test ublock for a few days, some ads really start to get annoying.

BTW, remember to turn your adblockers off on sites that you care for and keep it that way if they don't serve annoying ads.
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Thanks guys. I just installed uBlock Origin (not to be confused with uBlock which seems to be a rip-off of the former original version), and it appears to be working a treat Thumbs Up

Those pesky YouTube ads now seem to have stopped appearing Big Grin
