Link : https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/produ...opter-kit/ I need to order a receiver for my Taranis X9D. Preferably also from the same vendor. This radio is new to me, so any advice will be gratefully received. It uses the Diatone F40 Mamba stack. Thank you. • Posts: 21,294 Threads: 589 Likes Received: 8,982 in 6,647 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 12-Dec-2019, 12:25 PM (This post was last modified: 12-Dec-2019, 12:27 PM by SnowLeopardFPV.) If you've got the pre-2019 X9D+ (the one with "ACCST" written on the front bottom left of the screen and not "ACCESS" written on the front bottom right) then get the FrSky R-XSR receiver... https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/product/frsky-r-xsr-micro-sbus-cppm-receiver EDIT: Just noticed that the R-XSR is out of stock at Unmanned Tech, so you'll need to get it from a different supplier. • Posts: 21,294 Threads: 589 Likes Received: 8,982 in 6,647 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 HobbyRC has the R-XSR in stock (shipping is £1.95 by first class post)... https://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/frsky-r-xsr-eu...-telemetry Quadcopters also have it in stock (shipping is also £1.95 by first class post)... https://www.quadcopters.co.uk/frsky-r-xs...24ghz-sbus (use the discount code "BESTFPVSHOP" for a 5% discount) Posts: 29 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 19 Joined: Dec 2019 Reputation: 1 (12-Dec-2019, 12:25 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: If you've got the pre-2019 X9D+ (the one with "ACCST" written on the front bottom left of the screen and not "ACCESS" written on the front bottom right) then get the FrSky R-XSR receiver... https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/product/frsky-r-xsr-micro-sbus-cppm-receiver EDIT: Just noticed that the R-XSR is out of stock at Unmanned Tech, so you'll need to get it from a different supplier. I have the very latest X9D+ 2019 Special Edition with ACCESS on the bottom right. • Posts: 21,294 Threads: 589 Likes Received: 8,982 in 6,647 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 12-Dec-2019, 02:19 PM (This post was last modified: 12-Dec-2019, 02:20 PM by SnowLeopardFPV.) OK, so if you have the new ACCESS equipped 2019 X9D+ you have a the following recommended options:- - Get an R-XSR receiver and bind it to your 2019 X9D+ using the ACCST D16 protocol mode.
- Get one of the newer "Archer M+" ACCESS enabled receivers which can be bound using the ACCESS protocol mode.
If you are going to buy into and commit to the new FrSky ACCESS protocol then option 2 will be more future proof, however those receivers aren't yet available for purchase. Pre-orders are available on some supplier stores such as HorusRC ( HERE) with expected release to be some time around the middle of January, but no UK suppliers have the Archer M+ listed yet. Banggood also has a pre-order listing HERE. If you are keen to get something working before then, just get an R-XSR which have been around for a while and are well proven receivers. • Posts: 29 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 19 Joined: Dec 2019 Reputation: 1 (12-Dec-2019, 02:19 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: OK, so if you have the new ACCESS equipped 2019 X9D+ you have a the following recommended options:- - Get an R-XSR receiver and bind it to your 2019 X9D+ using the ACCST D16 protocol mode.

Thanks very much for your concise reply. I have previously been told about the Archer, but as you say, they are not around yet it seems. I will go for the R-XSR for now. Thanks again. • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 You can buy the R-XSR and flash ACCESS firmware. You don't necessarily need to stick with ACCST. • Posts: 21,294 Threads: 589 Likes Received: 8,982 in 6,647 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 Good point by Voodoo. With all the FrSky shenanigans it slipped my mind that FrSky developed ACCESS firmware for some of their older receivers. You won't get some of the features such as over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates and features that were designed specifically for newer ACCESS-only receivers, but you should get most of the other stuff including lower latency and up to 24 channels. So you would probably be best advised to flash the R-XSR with ACCESS firmware once you get it. • Posts: 29 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 19 Joined: Dec 2019 Reputation: 1 (12-Dec-2019, 05:23 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: Good point by Voodoo. I don’t mind learning stuff though, so long as I don’t fry any of my gear in the process. I’ll be off to do some learning then. Although for now I might just go with your recommendation of the R-XSR, use it in ACCST until I know what I’m doing. My god things get really confusing really quickly. ? • Posts: 21,294 Threads: 589 Likes Received: 8,982 in 6,647 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 If you want to learn about the capabilities of the new ACCESS protocol, a good place to start is at the link below... https://www.frsky-rc.com/frsky-advanced-communication-control-elevated-spread-spectrum-access-protocol-release Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (12-Dec-2019, 05:44 PM)Scubadrone Wrote: That’s a whole new lot of lessons for me then ! You have the newer radio, which has ACCESS protocol firmware on it. This radio, natively, will only bind to a receiver with ACCESS firmware or receivers with ACCST firmware in D16 mode. Unfortunately, ACCST D8 mode got dropped. People are pissed because most micro quads use D8 receiver. All new receivers that have ACCESS firmware will only bind to radio with ACCESS firmware. Some receivers, that was released in the ACCST era, can be flashed with ACCESS firmware. One such is the R-XSR. From the manufacturer, the R-XSR should have ACCST firmware on it. Without flashing, you should be able to bind your radio with the R-XSR. But you do have the option of the newer ACCESS protocol. As Snow already mentioned, the new Archer receiver has the added feature of OTA firmware update. Which is actually very nice, because you don't have to dig for your receiver inside your quad to update firmware. So do we know when this new Archer receiver (and presumably soon to be others?) will be available in the UK? It does sound like it’s a good idea, and may be worth waiting for. Is there a tutorial/video which shows how to flash the R-XSR ? Sorry for the dumb newb questions, but I do really appreciate the help and advice. • Posts: 29 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 19 Joined: Dec 2019 Reputation: 1 Aha ! Version 1.1.4 of the ACCESS firmware with an RSSI fix was released only a month ago and it's quite likely that the one Unmanned Tech are selling has an older version of the ACCESS firmware pre-installed from the factory. Unfortunately there is no way to find out the version installed. All you can do is just install a known version in place of what is already there. |
