When building a quad go cheap or expensive?
#16
To be honest rebuilding does not bother me at all. I got some rc cars in between ever other race I completely strip them and clean them. I mainly don’t want to buy something that will just fall out of the sky or has allot of vibrations but something I can put up and fly. I know I will be building and repairing allot in the beginning and this is why I want to go the cheap route, but if the parts I would be using is causing the issue to rebuild I would rather buy better items that will not do that. If I have to rebuild I would want it to be my mistake not the parts.

Ok Folks....

Just to clarify my position here...when I say decent frame, I don't mean one that is a 100 bucks or more. My first frame was a ZMR 250 that cost 58.00 and it was and still as solid as a rock. By all rights the way I fly, it should have been destroyed a long time ago, but it has never been broken. There are good frames out there in this price range...some even less that would be good options. The frame the OP specified was approximately 15.00 is memory serves. IF it is involved in a high speed crash and folds, then it is entirely possible something inside that frame is going to damaged or destroyed as well. So my philosophy is spend a little of your budget on something that may help protect the rest of your investment. It's all based on the budget...all I am saying is if your budget can tolerate it, get a decent frame. Just my .02 cents.

This is a great vid by Josh Bardwell showing a good selection of cheaper motors, (it is pretty ancient now, from all of 4 months ago! *joking, sort of*) I think he may have specifically avoided RacerStar for this test though.

Sorry [minor thread hijack]
Gotta mention... Josh just announced that he has quit his day job, so he is fully reliant on backing from the community now, so if you have gained some helpful knowledge from his channel, maybe consider ordering something through one of his affiliated links to show your support for all his great work!

I know some people strongly disagree with affiliate links, so sorry if this mention causes anyone offence, but IMO it doesn't hurt anyone.

Lowlife,

I am kinda confused here now.  You gave me a document that has a great build guide on it, which includes parts linked to the banngood site then posted a video that has a guy stateing he likes banngood because it keeps everyone in check, but does not use them because of what they do?

Its an old argument and I think you should just take it as educational for the moment.
As you spend a bit more time on the forum you learn more about who the 'actual' product developers are, and with that knowledge, comes the choice to purchase from the developers you want to support.

I think the main message is that all competition inspires improvement, so spend your money on both sides to keep it competitive!

The playlist after that video is an excellent build guide also. He has 2 parts list a cheap one and a expensive one. The parts are listed in the description in the videos.

He goes step by step building both.

I started a few months ago using Painless 360's beginners guide (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...SOdoMaR9-p). I also used similar parts to what you listed. I just replaced the Racerstar motors with much better ones and it was only about $12 more than the original purchase. I've learned quite a bit about motors since then and I realize that the RS motors were junk. They did get me off the ground and worked for a while but there is a big difference between them and good motors. Spend 10-20 bucks more for the motors and go with an F4 FC like this (https://www.amazon.com/Flight-Controller...2M4K8GXRRB). I have bought from Banggood and waited for the slow boat but I try to avoid them if possible. I used Amazon almost exclusively for the first build for easy returns and faster Prime shipping. Now that I have a few builds under my belt I realize the weaknesses of my first build but don't regret building it. With the new motors it has new life and still flies great.
I'd rather be flying!

Thank you Hypurr.

Instead of using the parts from above I am going what Josh Bardwell has on his webpage https://www.fpvknowitall.com/who-am-i/.  Mainly because I love watching his videos and since he quit his day job to do more videos for us I am going to support him. So far just ordered the martian frame, rcx motors, and spedex esc's.  I was going to order his Flight controller but none are in stock.  In 2 weeks when I get paid again I will order something for a flight controller but not sure which one yet. And yes the slow boat sucks, but with living in Minnesota right now the temps outside are in the negatives.  So even if I did do 2 day shipping with prime it wont be for a couple of weeks I will be out flying.
