TRAMP HV
#1
I joined a race last year where all the pilots were forced to use the tramp HV.  We got a "free" vtx along with the entry fee.  After using these vtx's for a year, I thought I would share my opinion about the vtx.

The cons:
The vtx itself is quite large,  I had trouble fitting it in some of my pod builds.
The unit itself also gets quite hot, make sure you don't put it close to any devices that can melt.
If not installed properly or glued the pigtail antenna can easily pop off during flight or a crash
The pigtail antenna is very thin and can be damaged easily.
It's more expensive than a vt03 from banggood.

The pros:
channel management is simplified using the "wand" or telemetry connection via transmitter
The tramps are the only surviving vtxs I have from last year.  They outlasted all my banggood vtxs and even fx799 series vtxs
In case of a bad crash the vtx antenna sma connector might tear off turning the unit into garbage.  The tramp's pigtail can easily be swapped out with a new one.
vtx signal is great for group flying, there's little to no channels bleeding if everyone ran a tramp.
adjustable power output
can and should be powered directly from lipo.

To this day,  I would say this is my favourite vtx to use.  I've heard complaints about the tramp changing channels when it gets hot while sitting idle.  I decided to experiment and see if this is true.  Check my video here:

Here's a test from rotorgeeks showing the changing channel issue:

Maybe someone here can explain this issue.  I'd also like to know what everyone else's experience is using a tramp hv.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread here guys (hope thats OK T-Goat), but I was wondering if anyone has had the following problem with the Tramp HV.  I'll be in the air flying with no problem and all of a sudden  nothing but static.  Got it down on the bench and found   that I was getting the continuous rapid blinking which indicates it is either not transmitting or it's gone in to pit mode.  No clue s to why.  I was on like my third battery and I had been in  the air a couple of minutes, and the signal just went out.  After doing a little research there appear to be some heat related issues, but it's not like this thing had been sitting idle, it was in motion and had been for a couple of minutes.  Ideas, suggestions, comments?  Thanks guys.  Smile

They are aware about the problems. Best thing to do is contact customer service and they will most likely send you a new one.

I didn't fly too much with my tramp, maybe 30-40 packs until now, at the beginning I had some channel/power level issues but I found out that when it gets hot, the button is being kept pressed by the heatshrink. Cutting it out around the button solved all my problems Smile
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: NOX5, NOX5RAirblade Assault 130 and drive a scrap RC car

Thanks T-Goat I appreciate the response. After reading Konrads reply I may try his suggestion first, but failing that I will contact them.  Thanks again. Smile

I haven't flown near that many packs with mine, but I actually thought about that.  To make matters worse, the ziptie I am using to secure it passes fairly close to the switch which is probably putting extra tension on it meaning even less tension is required by the shrink wrap to push the button.  Thanks for the suggestion Konrad, thats my next step. I've flown around 80 or so flights with mine on 400mW and no issues at all. I did remove the heatshrink and conformal coat the VTx (except the top of the heatsink) before I installed it though, thinking it would cool better and be much safer this way. It's also waterproof, working fine even in heavy rain. Soo far so good.

edit: I also installed it with the metal heatsink tight up against the carbon fiber of my top plate and used thermal paste to ensure good contact.
Flying: Talon SVX 220 Hypebuild! & WATERPROOF Martian 3, 5" Motors: Hyperlite 2205 2522Kv FC: DYS F4 Pro (BF Omnibus F4 3.2.0) ESC: Speedix ES20 Lite (potted in 2 part epoxy) VTx: Tramp HV (conformal coated) Rx: Crossfire micro V2 (conformal coated) Camera: Runcam Eagle 2

Hello All.  I could use some help.

I have set-up Tramp Telemetry on my Betaflight F3 FC board with no problem. I just got a Betaflight F4 FC board for a new build, and I cannot get Tramp telemetry to work. I have tried wiring and configuring Tramp telemetry with different UARTs (2 and 3), both with and without soft serial. No matter what I try, I can’t see or change the VTX channel in my Betaflight OSD.

Do you have any tips for getting tramp telemetry working with a Betaflight F4 board?  Thanks!!
