Taranis X9D+ 2019
#1
Frsky "Re-designed" the tried and tested Taranis X9D+ and released the 2019 version.

I've been testing this radio for a few days now, feels absolutely the same as the good old X9D+, but with a few tweaks here and there making it easier to use.

If you are a completely new user, I can recommend the Taranis X9D+ 2019 radio. You will need the ACCESS protocol in the future for sure because most Frsky’s future receivers will use it. And I personally love the Taranis X9D+ ergonomics.

If you have already got the original X9D Plus, no need to upgrade (just yet). Unless your old Taranis is falling apart like mine (my buttons are not responding well and external module bay died), or you really want to give the new features a try, then it’s a good excuse to get the 2019 Taranis.

Nice review.

As much as I like new updated kit, I'm not sure what real benefits the new X9D+ 2019 model offers other than the ACCESS protocol which I don't really care for at the moment. I use my current X9D+ in D8 mode for my whoop so I would be required to get an external module with the new transmitter which is a negative IMO. Until FrSky stop updating ACCST firmware on their current line of receivers or they bring out a new line of ACCESS only receivers and discontinue their existing line then I don't see a lot of point, unless you have a broken transmitter of course.

I know ACCESS has lower latency but I never heard anyone complaining about the latency of ACCST.

Not much really apart from ACCESS and the scroll wheel (which I have to admit it's SO MUCH easier to use than the buttons)
Yea if you already have the original X9D+, keep it, no need to upgrade.

------------

Apart from latency, ACCESS is pretty cool technology. For example, once a receiver is bound, it's bound to the transmitter forever, no need to do it again even after you flash new firmware, unless you want to bind it to a different radio. There are other features I am still discovering, like wireless firmware flashing (rumour) but there isn't much info about it yet.
