Jumper T16 released - the Taranis Killer?
#1
I have been reviewing this guy a few days now, it's been a solid radio. My review: https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t16-radio/

Here is a summary of the good's and bads.

Good’s:
  • massive color screen, absolutely love it!

  • user-friendly wheel menu button

  • removable battery – supports both 18650 and 2S LiPo

  • full size gimbals – quality not bad for a cheap radio

  • more than enough switches, sliders and pots, with 6 extra flight mode buttons

  • supports Crossfire, and other JR external modules

  • comes with multi-protocol RF module – supports Frsky, Flysky and more

  • only $150!

  • most importantly, finally there is some real competition in the radio market!
Bad’s:
  • not 100% ideal for pinchers (okay if you use neck strap)

  • not hall sensor gimbals

  • there is no manual (not a problem if familiar with OpenTX)

  • back handle takes up too much space

  • 18650 battery holder cannot be used for charging

Great review. I already saw some reviews of the T16 on YouTube and did wonder if you'd be getting one of these. Are you planning to use it instead of your X9D?

The T16 certainly seems to be a real contender for people who like the large form factor transmitters, and I certainly think it is going to threaten/hurt FrSky's sales in that form factor space. FrSky are apparently trying to stop Banggood from selling it due to "patent infringement". Watch the battle commence Popcorn

This could be a real game changer if they release hall effect gimbals. Imagine a Horus 10X for half the price. Very similar to how Frsky dominated over Spektrum.

It's not that "pincher-friendly", I guess i could get over that by using a neck strap. I am so used to the X9D it's going to take sometime to get used to Smile
I also heard that rumour. Banggood in fact asked me to review this radio, way before Jumper did (like 2 weeks before)... then sudden it disappeared from Banggood's site Smile yea sometime shady is going on in the background. I didn't want to spread any drama so didn't say anything in the review.

I didn't realize that they make a hall effect gimbals for the T12. I wonder if it is a direct fit.

They do. You mean to fit in the T16? The T16 is a bigger radio than the T12, and it uses full size gimbals, i don't think the smaller gimbals on the T12 would fit the T16.

Yes, it appears so, like their other transmitters. From Oscar's review about 2/3 down the page...

Oscar Wrote:In Jumper’s marketing material, they emphasized numerous times that "TBS Crossfire is supported out of the box", making me wondering if they are going after Frsky here.

All the new radios from Frsky after the X9D, stopped supporting Crossfire. It’s possible to use, but you’d have to do some DIY mods, which is annoying. Many speculated this is a move to push their own 900MHz long range system – the R9M.

Nice review sir! I already have the Nirvana glued to my hands, but that does not look like too bad of an option. I still believe I would stick with the Taranis over the Jumper if I were pressed though.

Why would you choose the one over the other?  I have thought of getting a second radio and dedicating it to 900mhz and the Jumper looks like a solid option for the price...but not entirely set with a choice yet.

I kind of thought the same thing Kaity, but I think I am gonna hold out for a while and see if any bugs/reliability issues shake out.

Mainly because I'm a thumber, and the Nirvana is like a god-send. The Taranis was always fun to use, but required a bit of finesse to hold right for me.

Omg yes. It's the literal sh*t. Always feel bad for the guys on the Facebook group that get hounded. They are working their tails off and the product shows it! Again, thank you so much! I'd cuddle it to sleep with me but the wife complains lol
