FrSky Taranis X9 Lite
#1
A new transmitter from FrSky is on the horizon...

Source: http://www.multirotorguide.com/rumors/rumors-frsky-taranis-x9-lite

Quote:FrSky is preparing the new radio to release soon – Taranis X9 Lite. This is entry level radio with the new low latency ACCESS protocol and is running er9x or OpenTX firmwares.

Taranis X9 Lite is a little bit smaller and lighter than Taranis X9D radio, has the same LCD display from Taranis Q X7 with a resolution of 128×64 pixels. Radio has SD card slot, haptic and voice feedback, wired trainer port, smart port and Micro USB port. X9 Lite radio has 24 channels (expandable to 48), 60 models (expandable by SD Card).

Taranis X9 Lite has improved navigation, introducing the roller button (look at the Jumper T16). The gimbals look to be the same as in Taranis Q X7, but X9 Lite has less controls – 6 switches and one turn pot.

New radio accepts the 18650 Li-on batteries.

FrSky Taranis X9 Lite will be available in White, Silver, Light Blue and Dark Blue colors.

Price level: less then X9D+.

Smaller?! No!!!!
I was hoping they would have kept the same shell as the X9D... looks like it's coming after the Jumper T8 / T12 line Smile

There's a picture of their stand at the Beijing Exhibition Center a couple of weeks ago showing the X9 Lite on the hoardings (in front of the white chair in the bottom centre of the photo below). The photo of that stand is on their official Facebook page. So I don't believe it's fake news.

I just got an email saying that this radio is available and cost $59 launch promotion price. I guess they are aiming at Jumper.

That's pretty cheap. They are clearly suffering from sales as a result of Jumper and are trying to claw back some custom. I do however think the X9 Lite is only really going to appeal to people just starting out in the hobby as a cheap entry level transmitter and it does have quite a cheap look to it. I can't really see (m)any of the established pilots getting one.

It's also now on the FrSky main website...

https://www.frsky-rc.com/product/taranis-x9-lite

So it does have a "lite" style module bay which is good news although it's not clear what modules that bay actually supports, and if it is anything like the X-Lite Pro with the ACCESS protocol then it won't support the current R9 Lite module (it requires the R9 Lite Pro module, not yet released). The manual refers to a "High-speed module digital interface" but it's not clear what that actually is, or if it will support existing JR/Graupner modules (with an appropriate JR bay module adapter of course). Like the original X9D, the antenna also doesn't appear to be easily removable/replaceable either. And no USB charging either like the X-Lite Pro. Charging the 18650's has to be done in an external charger. A link to the manual is below...

https://www.frsky-rc.com/wp-content/uplo...manual.pdf

It should be noted by anyone interested in the X9 Lite that there is limited receiver support at the moment with only a small handful of receivers having ACCESS firmware available for them. Full details of the ACCESS protocol and the receivers currently supported are on the following web page...

https://www.frsky-rc.com/frsky-advanced-communication-control-elevated-spread-spectrum-access-protocol-release

There is a "first look" video here (narrated in Czech but with English subtitles)...

And there is also further information in the following threads on RCG...

And size comparison with the full size X9D...

Frsky sent out emails to their dealers asking them not to stock the Jumper T12 and T16 or they will stop selling them frsky products. (they claim the T12 is copy of the QX7, and T16 is copy of the Horus X12).

They also removed JR external module bays on their latest radios, allegedly to make it more difficult to use Crossfire.

I've stuck up for FrSky in the past when they were on the receiving end, and I'm with Jumper in this one.

Also removing features from your products is almost always a dumb move. Unless you're Apple, of course. Then it's 'the future'.

The ground is for dead people.

I guess you're referring to the below. I think FrSky have probably just shot themselves in the foot with that sort of disgraceful threatening behaviour in the same way that TBS did.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fbpy...EH4rNtX_yI

And that different looking section in the middle of the first page just seems to just be a screenshot of part of someone else's post on RCG Huh

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre...st40933181

This pretty much proves that the X9 Lite was only manufactured to try and stamp out some of Jumper's lower end transmitters.

I wish everyone would just stop getting caught up in all the pointless soap dramas and get on with what they do best which is to try and innovate and produce truely better products than their competitors.

For anyone who has not watched it yet, here is Kabab's opinion on the situation and some details about the email they sent out.

Although it looks good and cheap, I will not buy it just because it does not support my current receivers. I wish they could offer support for both protocols.
