Short BAT and GND, FC burnt
#1
Hey guys,

I Know I already posted this before, but I have new infos, so I deleted the older one. There goes:
I have a Nazgul5 which I was installing My receiver. After and before the instalation everything was working fine.
Then I was troubleshooting A failsafe problem, so I was pluggging the battery and the usb cable on and off the drone, testing failsafe and other stuff.

Out of nowhere I plug the battery and I saw smome coming off the underside of the FC. Went to look and there was a Short between BAT and GND on the pin side of the connector of the FC that comes from the ESC, the ESC seems to be fine(didnt tested but no apparent damage to it) The only I think could have any relation is that 2-3 times I had to plug the battery out while the drone was armed with motors running (no props) and was not entering failsafe. The only thing I changed was the 5v,gnd and signal pad. Could a short in 5v do that?

(I tested receiver and vtx with external supply and they work fine)

You probably can't claim a replacement board once you started soldering receiver wires to it. That is the associated risk and the first thing to do is before making any changes to a BNF quad is to plug in a lipo (with a smoke stopper) to check for any issues and connect it to a computer to check that Betaflight is detecting everything as expected.

Looking at the image the VBAT pad /connector is burned and it is hard to know the complete extent of the damage done to the FC or ESC.

As a quick test can you exclude the VBAT wire from the ESC to FC connector, power up the FC via usb and see if you can spin the motors via Betaflight and if you can see receiver inputs etc. This is to ensure the FC is still usable.

If the above works then there must be another VBAT pad on the FC (perhaps in the VTX related pads area) where you could solder a VBAT wire from the ESC to.

I believe I was not clear, I have about 10 flights with it, but changed my RC so had to change the receiver, the FC still works fine via usb, I'tt try to remove the short between the two pins and do what you suggested.
