Behold ... The Ronin Mk1!!!!111!elevnty I am *so stoked* by how this turned out. Unfortunately, I did *not* cut this myself. I called defeat on the at-home CNC project earlier today. But I had commissioned a shop to cut an earlier version of my design before plunging head first into DIY CNC. I'm sure glad I did. This arrived today shortly after I hoisted the white flag on CNC. I did need to do some filing around the camera cage, but I think you really need to file in order to ensure the best fitment. The press nuts work fantastic and are super dug in there. I'm pretty confident these arms are not going to be causing any sort of gyro noise ... And for the moment of truth ... the frame weight. I think hugs called it at 40g ... well hugs, we gone done bettah dan dat bruddah!! This means I get to use the high C rated 850mAh 4S Tattus!! This also suggests that my idea of a 5 inch lightweight LR using those GND 1100mAh 4S is very well within reach. Super stoked. Frame itself without hardware came in at 27.28g. I'm so stoked on this guys. Especially after the disappointment with the CNC project. This was like going from -10 to +100 lololol. I'll be printing up 3d parts and hoping to get this ready for tuning tomorrow. For those interested, I went with Plastic Spider for this job. Just know expect twice the fee of CNC Madness but this guy's responsiveness is light years ahead of Nick's (not a jab against Nick I know he is just super busy - but sometimes, things just can't wait). So. STOKED. That is most awesome, to be able to make your own frame. Well done mate!! I love the arm mounting design and how you've kept the flight stack off the same bolts as the arms. Here are some fitment shots ... Would like a quad with those motors? LOL Posts: 1,400 Threads: 121 Likes Received: 1,423 in 739 posts Likes Given: 1,111 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 42 Damn, that's a setup right there! Yes I've been eyeing off those motors myself. So that is a double sandwiched camera cage? hmmm. I think that will bode well for impact strength in a head on collision with anything. Have you thought about lowering the top deck to make it a slammed look? I guess that impacts the design of the camera cage mounting. Ultralight bus style frames are in less abundance than bottom mount pod-style frames. I prefer the handling of the bus style, top battery mount. Please let me know in all seriousness if you plan to get a few more cut, I'd buy one! Awesome work and great to know that tuning/noise dynamics had gone into your design process. T-Motor just came out with those motors right? I just saw them this morning. I'm with ph2t. I'll be willing to buy one of those frames also. I would love to build a digital UL out of one. When can we order this frame for $30? Nailed it. Getting this thing to a cost effective level is tricky. If anything maybe I can work something out with Nick or the Armattan store. But anyway, let's see if this thing will even hold a tune lol. It's been a while I've done a build so I forgot all the stuff I had to 3d print still lol. Thanks guys!! I really thought this thing was going to come in closer to 50g. As for production, I really need to see how this thing takes a tune first. I am already concerned by the integrity of the top plate without any middle standoffs. My v2 of this frame actually has middle standoffs. But we shall see. The build is taking longer than I thought I forgot all the little things that need to be done lol. I just need to wire up the LEDs, make a lipo pad, and shorten the lipo leads on the Tattus and I should be good to go for tuning. At least I got to let the conformal coating dry overnight which I normally don't have the patience to wait for lol. I am actually hoping I have a defective FC because the aggressive filtering I normally use will absolutely not work. I even thought I had accidentally hit some stator windings with a motor mounting screw or something because the motors would shake and shudder that badly and get very hot quickly. I ruled everything else out (magnet count, etc) and whittled it down to the filtering. I reset to default filtering ... voila. Motors spun fine. This is really dissapointing because the rigidity of this frame is not dissimilar to the Diatone Roma. Although the Roma does have sandwiching bottom plates which I thought my connected arm design would serve to mitigate. Evidently not. I'm going to try and clear out the electronics in case maybe something's up with the gyro and see how it arms from there. But so far, no bueno. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 • Posts: 1,400 Threads: 121 Likes Received: 1,423 in 739 posts Likes Given: 1,111 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 42 Mate setup a gofundme and let us help you throw some cash at the issue/s. I’m serious I want a good bus style ultralight frame, can’t find anything without fancy crap on it. I know the rekon5 has its issues, the shocker looks great but has lots of stuff going on with that frame, I think jasper is “sort of” happy with it but not 100% sure. Seriously is there any bus style frames out there in the ultralight category? Know the answer? Sure the ronin mk1 !!! Get to it son, make us proud!! I had shake shenanigans when I swapped out the fc/esc stack in my rekon. Went to emuflight and found it much better - I know hardly a control/test comparison but hey it worked out well for me. Thank you ph. I'll tell ya what man, if I get this thing up to ronin standards as far tuning and flight performance goes, I'll get with Nick to see if he can print the regulars here at IntoFPV frames for themselves until I can get a proper production process going. I very much appreciate the vote of confidence man especially after the back-to-back fails recently lol. Update ... swapped out the FC with an identical one off a very good flying Diatone Roma. Same result. But now I am hesitant to cut up a CF sandwich plate for the arms. At least not yet. I took a blackbox trace for the few seconds I could arm the motors before they felt like they were going to spontaneously combust. The trace is whack schmacko man. I've got a full bar up and down smack dab on the motor frequency ... with RPM filtering enabled (yes, magnets checked 5 times, then tried 12 instead of 14 just in case I was hallucinating again). This to me is odd. Odder still, how does a gyro (or accel for that matter) get messed up when it is literally sitting there on the ground with no props on?! I get that I went super aggressive with the 1.5mm single bottom plate and 3mm arms ... but I'm wondering if that's just no bueno for a 20XX motor even though it's super stout. I've always only ran 14XX motors on these types of builds. I also recall Kabob mentioning that he was experiencing weird results with the 2004 size specifically but did not go into details - and his toothpick style frames are notorious for thinner arms. I'm going to try and swap out these 2004's with some Superman 1404's. Not exactly the powerhouse propulsion I was going for but from my experience those motors are more than capable of ripping a 250-ish freestyle build. That and mad weight savings. Onward. lol |
