Hey guys - been flying for about 6 mo. Stumped on this issue. Drone has been flying fine for a while, but then I crashed it hard into a bench. Now, it shakes during throttle. Motors super hot after flying. Two motors were not spinning smoothly after the crash, so I replaced both esc's, and now they spin smoothly on arm, but same issue while flying where it shakes during throttle and sounds really off. Any ideas on troubleshooting this? Also - here is a video (my camera isn't at the right angle but you can see the shake) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jBo3MlN...sp=sharing 5 inch quad, mattek f722-se. • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 Check for broken arm or loose arms. • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 It could also mean the shafts are bent or the bearings or bells are damaged. Either of these could cause problems. • Posts: 310 Threads: 31 Likes Received: 82 in 67 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Jul 2020 Reputation: 4 • Posts: 438 Threads: 63 Likes Received: 93 in 70 posts Likes Given: 26 Joined: Jul 2017 Reputation: 1 or loose mounting bolts on the FC • Posts: 5 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Jun 2021 Reputation: 0 (28-Jun-2021, 04:27 AM)voodoo614 Wrote: Check for broken arm or loose arms. Also, if the motor is broken how would I know which one? • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (28-Jun-2021, 02:08 PM)Remi Wrote: All arms are on their securely. The FC likely use one gyro. You just need to switch to the second gyro through CLI. set gyro_to_use = second Save To check motor. Take props off. Individually spin them and see if you can see any problem. You might not see any problem. • Posts: 5 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Jun 2021 Reputation: 0 (28-Jun-2021, 05:07 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: The FC likely use one gyro. You might not see any problem. I switched onto the second gyro, and took the drone out for a test flight, and the same issue happened. When plugging it back in for a second test flight, the drone smoked and I immediately unplugged it. I then brought it home, installed the blackbox and configured it at 500 hz, as that's the highest it goes too, and tried to figure out the shorting issue with my multimeter. As far as I can tell, it only smokes when the top of the frame is on it, (I have tbs source one) so something must be touching the frame. I got halfway through untaping the escs, when I just gave up for the night. Any help would be highly appreciated. • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 29-Jun-2021, 03:15 PM (This post was last modified: 29-Jun-2021, 03:19 PM by kafie1980.) That would be the least possible cause because the only thing most people have mounted on the top plate is a lipo and maybe a Gopro. I have a SourceOne V3 and that design has so much space to accommodate components that it makes me love my SourceOne every time I take the top plate off. If you have a short on such a frame, then that's not right. There must be something in the wiring. maybe a screw touching a solder pad, or a solder ball causing a short, maybe a bare wire, check the plugs on the vtx or camera or any other harness plugs for any burn marks. Any components mounted or stacked with little gap or maybe using just double sided tape? • Posts: 254 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 47 in 41 posts Likes Given: 10 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 2 (29-Jun-2021, 03:15 PM)kafie1980 Wrote: There must be something in the wiring. maybe a screw touching a solder pad, or a solder ball causing a short, maybe a bare wire, check the plugs on the vtx or camera or any other harness plugs for any burn marks. Maybe thats the reason • Posts: 6,112 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,286 in 1,833 posts Likes Given: 4,736 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 i had such esc s in the past, bottom carbon was enough contact in my case. the top shouldnt make a difference there. • Posts: 5 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Jun 2021 Reputation: 0 (29-Jun-2021, 03:15 PM)kafie1980 Wrote: Why will it only smoke with the top of the frame on? Any components mounted or stacked with little gap or maybe using just double sided tape? Hello everyone. The shorting issue was caused by a screw too big touching the capacitor. I then hooked the motors up to betaflight, and a weird thing happened. The motors were fine, but when motor 4 was suddenly put at a range between 1400-1500, it would make a ticking sound. I swapped motor 1(which is fine) and motor 4, which is the bad one. The problem still persisted. (See video which was taken after the swap.) It must be the board as the esc was recently replaced. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1g1jnzZg...sp=sharing • Posts: 5 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Jun 2021 Reputation: 0 Hi guys, thanks for helping so far. I took the drone out for a test flight today, and recorded the blackbox. I was hopeful it would be fixed, but same problem. Can anyone read this blackbox file and determine the problem?
