OLD Naze32 FC
#1
Hi all,

I have build myself a quadcopter back in 2016 and it has been resting a box for a while.
I decided to bring it back to life but I'm facing issues with the flight controller. Maybe someone here can help me. Are Naze32 flight contollers still an option? lol

The board I have is this one: link, I believe it is rev3, and it's (very incomplete) manual can be found here. But it doesn't even have led meanings.
Before stopped flying it I somehow managed to brick it, now I`m trying to fix it.

When I turn it on I get the solid blue led (as expected) and a weak solid red led. Blue led is mucher stronger than red, I tried to take a photo but blue led is so bright that one can't see the red led on.
I tried to connect to CleanFlight, connection timeout after 10 seconds.
I tried to flash new firmware, CleanFlight fail to connect to bootloader.
I tried to manual flash the firmware using STM32 Flasher as show on the video below, but it also fail. After connect flight controller (in boot mode) to PC and click the first "next" at STM32 flasher it gives the error message, also show below.

Error message:

I have a spare board, same model and version of the bricked one, however, to avoid redoing all soldering job (which I`m terrible) I`m trying to find a solution to the board already on the quadcopter.
I see this forum have good quorum and decided to post my question. Hopefully this is going to be my way back to quadcopters world after some years.

EDIT: I have downloaded and sucessfully installed drivers before any steps described here.

Thanks in advance!

Naze32 has been dropped many years ago.
Are you able to connect the spare board to Cleanflight. BTW, Cleanflight is also irrelevant now. They haven't had an update for awhile.

We will try to help, but it might be worth just getting a modern day FC.

Did you install the CP210x driver needed for the Naze32?

Thanks for helping, it seems I'm really outdated here lol
Sorry for the long time to reply back.

Yes to both your questions. I'm able to connect to the spare board and I had installed the CP210x driver sucesfully.

Seems like I have really bricked the board and solution will be swap it to the spare one.

Additionally: Which software should I use instead of CleanFlight, BetaFlight?

Really sounds like the FC is bad. I don't think it is worth the energy to try to fix it. You have done what is recommended for trying to unbrick the FC.

If you want suggestions for a new FC, let me know.

Yes, please.

Which FC would you recommend?
Also, which software to connect from PC? Betaflight?

Thanks!

Betaflight for race and freestyle.

INav for medium and long range.

Are you planning to keep the rest of your older equipment? If so, then can you tell me what ESC, vtx and receiver you have. Because a lot of tech has changed, I want to make sure everything works.

Yes, I'm planning to keep most of it to decrease to work required to get back flying.
The ESCs are 4 makerfire 20A (simonK firmware); receiver is Lemon Rx DMSX 6-channels, I don't have a video transmitter fitted, so it will not be a problem.

I normally recommend that you get an F7 FC. But since you have DMSX, I would just go with an F4. But an F4 with PDB. That way you can get rid of yours.

My recommendation

CL Racing F4
JB F4
Speedybee F4 AIO ($25)
https://www.racedayquads.com/products/sp...controller
Matek F4 CTR

you can also get an FC without PDB if you already have your own.

I recommend you get an FC with MPU6000 gyro. If you find something, just run it by us.

Thanks for all your help. I'm going to take a while to read about new FC and other components to update my project.  Smile

Be careful with the contents that you read. A lot of websites are dated. You are better watching through more recent YouTube videos.
