So, I've been cruising the skies with DJI drones for a good while, and the last couple of years have been all about that DJI FPV life. Just got my hands on the Chimera 7 Pro V2 last week, and, I gotta confess, I'm a bit lost in the Betaflight maze. I know the basics like "Failsafe" and kinda-sorta get "Rates," but the rest seems like rocket science! Checked out a bunch of YouTube vids on Betaflight settings, and let's just say it's a tad overwhelming. Work's got me hustling, and I can't dive deep into the Betaflight rabbit hole right now. Do I really need to tinker with any other settings, or are the factory presets good to go? Just trying to figure out if I should dive into the nitty-gritty or if it's already good as is! Any friendly pilots out there with some simple advice? Help a brother out! ✌️ • Posts: 6,092 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,283 in 1,830 posts Likes Given: 4,721 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 01-Dec-2023, 08:51 PM (This post was last modified: 01-Dec-2023, 08:51 PM by hugnosed_bat.) its easy :-) check out oscars great articles, well organized knowledge, everyone can go deep into the theme with oscars help :-) come back here if you struggle or get some more questions :-) https://oscarliang.com Posts: 8 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2023 Reputation: 0 (01-Dec-2023, 08:51 PM)hugnosed_bat Wrote: its easy :-) check out oscars great articles, well organized knowledge, everyone can go deep into the theme with oscars help :-) come back here if you struggle or get some more questions :-) https://oscarliang.com Yeah, I've totally checked out his articles, man. Super helpful stuff, no doubt. But you know what's the deal? I couldn't score the answer to my burning question in any of those gems. With your radio turned on and bound to the drone, go into BF 1) Go to the Receiver tab and make sure the channel sliders are moving according to the sticks on your radio 2) Go to Modes tab and set the switch/positions for Arm and flight modes you want (beeper, flip, etc) Some BNFs might come with presets that suits you already. 3) If it is analog, you can got the VTX tab and set your desired band/channel, or otherwise simply scan with your goggles For a BNF that should get you flying. Phew, talk about a relief – this is way less complicated than I thought! Huge thanks for dropping these knowledge bombs. It looks like mstc has gotten you in the air. He is spot on. All you really need is the receiver bound and working and a couple of switches: ARM and flight modes: ANGLE and HORIZON. You do not have to set one for ACRO as that is the default and will be in that mode unless one of the other modes is turned on. Once you get it in the air and flying, relax and fly it just as it is. Start by using ANGLE mode and take it easy and just get used to it. Even though I fly FPV, I always fly a new quad whether a BNF or a custom build with Line of Sight (no goggles) for the first few flights just to get a feel for it and to WATCH the quad to see how she behaves with the stick movement. First, just hover tests with small movements. Next, I will move on to flights that are a bit longer, but still within a closer range. If all goes well, I will take the craft to a larger fly location and start with a short FPV flight. Take it a little at a time until you get comfortable with it. There is no hurry, only having fun. If the quad flies to your satisfaction, then there is no necessity to change the PID settings or tuning in Betaflight. I only resort to tuning if there is some characteristic, issue, or problem that needs to be fixed or "tuned out". My philosophy is the following: If it ain't broke, then don't fix it. All of my quads (except one) from small whoops to a 7-inch are flying with the factory stock Default Betaflight tune settings. They all fly just fine. I have been in the hobby for about 6 years and have noticed that there seems to be a "thought" that all quads need to "tuned", however, this is simply NOT the case. Maybe back in the day, but not today. If the craft seems uncontrollable, check to be sure that the switch for ANGLE mode is turned on. Angle mode is the MOST Stable flight mode and the easiest to get started with. This is especially true with larger craft because they cover airspace quickly and things happen fast. It simply is not necessary that you fly in ACRO mode unless or until you are ready. In fact, I rarely fly in ACRO mode; not because I can't, I just don't care to as it doesn't suit my style. Anway, just my 2 cents worth. Happy Flying Later, iFly • |
