Hey all! Here is my intro.
--------- Cinebot30 ------------
I'm currently flying a Cinebot30, and having a blast with it. It does everything I want at this point in terms of freestyle, which is what I'm into--it's fast, easy to flip and roll, etc. It's also relatively quiet, safe, and so far indestructible. Not getting much love for using it for freestyle on reddit/fpv, and this forum was recommended by someone over there.
I have been flying daily for the last week at local parks (more intermittently before, due to weather and time constraints), and absolutely loving it. It's like a Zen experience--I always feel calm, relaxed, and centered after flying, and it carries over into the rest of my life.
I use a Radiomaster TX 12, and DJI Googles 2 which I got with my Avata.
------------- DJI Googles 2 --------------------
I replaced the face mask and the strap, since neither were working well. Much better now.
The googles view still is kind of blurry, due to my vision. I have the right lens set to about 0 (very little correction, due to cataract surgery), and the left set to +2, which is the maximum. The right eye has astigmatism, and I think that's the main problem. I'm considering getting lenses made for the eyeglass frames they supply. I'm frugal, so normally use Costco for glasses, but I don't know if they make lenses for the goggles frames.
Also, I'm confused by this in the user manual:
------- DJI Avata -----------
I also have a DJI Avata, which I got at about the same time, thinking I would use it for some freestyle, but perhaps more for longer range and videos while flying in manual mode (i.e., air mode). Had significant problems with it--tilting into the wind in normal mode, and suddenly switching from manual to normal mode when doing slightly radical moves. It does this by design above 360 feet, which makes some sense, but it also has done it a number of times at lower altitudes.
I initially used DJI care refresh to replace the quad, but the replacement had the same issues, so DJI had me send them the quad and the controller. The controller was broken, but I never dropped it, and the quad was exhibiting these issues from the beginning, so I think it was broken when I got it. They charged me for the repair, but gave me 30% discount, and they say all is good now, it it has been shipped back.
I feel that I wasted the replacement, and that DJI should not have charged me for the repair. The also never answered my questions about whether or not these behaviors were considered normal, despite asking multiple times in email. A DJI rep just called to confirm the repair and shipping, and I reiterated my concerns. He said the test flight showed no tilting or unexpected switches from M to N modes, so fingers crossed. I asked him to convey my dissatisfaction about the way this was handled, and he said he would.
--------------- DJI Mini SE --------------
My wife got me this for Christmas 2022, which got me started. Since my natural inclination was to fly freestyle, which of course this is not suited for, I broke it fairly soon after getting it. Amazon was incredible in that they replaced it. I lost that one to a fly away--completely lost signal, and find my droned indicated it was in a stream, so bye bye.
I bought the 3rd one from DJI, along with care refresh. I broke this one and the first replacement, so am now on #5, but am not even flying it lately because I'm flying the Cinebot30. I'm thinking of practicing using this for quad in tree retrievals, but probably would just lose it to the tree as well.
I used it recently to inspect a neighbors roof for damage at his request. That was kind of fun.
----------- Bench equipment and tools ----------------
I decided I want to be able to do repairs, and probably a build in the future, so I got the PineCil, a $10 generic laptop power supply to power it via USB (works great), and the other required materials. My first repair was to replace a broken battery connector with a connector from a dead battery, and though it was ugly, it worked. After watching Bardwell and Steele YT videos on soldering, and others, I did my first wire to pad soldering jobs on a practice board, and found it surprisingly easy using their techniques.
My next project is to try and replace the almost inaudible DJI beeper with a ViFly mini beeper that I already have. I'm thinking I'll wait until I get my Avata back from DJI, so I have something to fly if I mess up, or can't get it done quickly enough.
I've already posted a question about helping hands with light and magnifier in the Tools forum.

Glad to be checking out this new forum, and hoping it will be more productive than reddit or discord, which have been somewhat useful.

Quote:Adjust the diopter of the goggles according to your needs and lock the knobs. My understanding is that the diopter refers to the sphere correction, which for me is -0.25 right and +2.50 left. Why would I not just get these corrections in the lenses and set the goggles diopter adjustments to 0?
For example, if you usually wear -6.0 D glasses and the self-prepared lens is -3.0 D, then you will need to
adjust the diopter of the goggles to -3.0 D to ensure that the overall diopter is -6.0 D after the eyeglass frame
is installed on the goggles.
