Can I use soft serial with this GPS? Hi klnyc, If you can implement SOFTSERIAL and have pads for the connection, then the answer is YES. However, I would put the GPS on a "hard" UART and something else {like Smartaudio} on the SOFTSERIAL. By the way, this is how Flywoo is implementing it on some of their FC boards; they DO provide pads for this. • Posts: 70 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 25 in 22 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Nov 2020 Reputation: 1 What fc? Only to be used with that configuration if you have no other option. • Posts: 11 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Apr 2021 Reputation: 0 (25-Apr-2021, 10:18 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: SoftSerial isn't recommended for GPS because the baud rate of SoftSerial isn't really fast enough. Only to be used with that configuration if you have no other option. I'm seeing the instructions for this GPS say that you need to connect at 9600 baud. That seems terribly low for GPS, but possibly good for softserial usage (which is limited to 19200 i believe). Will be interesting to see the results of testing everyone will do, I have my ATGM336H GPS on my mobula6, it works great but i am waiting on a smaller antenna (want to see what antenna they use on this tiny gps!) • Posts: 70 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 25 in 22 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Nov 2020 Reputation: 1 Put your vtx control on a soft serial and gps on hardware uart Posts: 5,851 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,775 in 2,237 posts Likes Given: 7,601 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 + one. Hi Felias, The NamelessRC Tiny GPS has been available at PyroDrone for some time now. I put one on my last order, should be here any day now. • Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 21-May-2021, 02:46 PM (This post was last modified: 21-May-2021, 02:51 PM by Oscar.) testing it right at this moment, it's taking forever to get a fix (over 10 mins still no fix) while the BN180 took just over a couple of minutes. to be fair, i am testing in the house, i will repeat the same in the park when the storm stops here lol • Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 Posts: 11 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Apr 2021 Reputation: 0 (21-May-2021, 10:57 AM)Felias Wrote: It wasn‘t released until 2 days ago. This appears to be a different model again - now with battery for storing satellite data... I'd go with that one over the non-battery version, but still the 9600bps limit is a worry • Posts: 70 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 25 in 22 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Nov 2020 Reputation: 1 26-May-2021, 06:23 PM (This post was last modified: 26-May-2021, 09:19 PM by p-i-engineer.) i should've waited one more day for Oscar's review. notes: -definitely on NMEA -i'm getting 1hz update rate -will get "lock", but does take forever, after an hour...6 sats...outside Overall: i would not buy. Curiosity got the best of me. Posts: 5,851 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,775 in 2,237 posts Likes Given: 7,601 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 My NamelessRC Tiny GPS arrived today. I am going to try it anyway. I have started wiring my GPS units with two connectors; one for the TX-RX signals and one for the power and position this connector where I can easily reach it. That way, I can power the GPS by itself with an extra battery; yeah, I figure a 1s is just about right since the GPS can be powered between 3.3 and 5 volts. I will see how well lit holds satellite links when in the air and at altitude. This unit is destined to be used on my Quest250-LR build. • |
