Another Very Interesting build
Low profile 3 inch prototype quad design |
31-Jan-2024, 03:28 PM Another Very Interesting build 06-Feb-2024, 05:10 AM Using the stl from the nanolongrange to get this started was handy but not the final goal. I want to have a more lightweight element and also lots of round corners 'n sh1t. This project alone has made me improve my tinkercad skills to the point where I'm now creating more complex shapes and I wanted to be able to use that with this version of the draft design. This one I won't build to fly but send out to a CF shop in China. Lessons learned from the previous design makes me confident this should work. This is a stretch x frame, wanted to follow the natural diamond like shapes(fc and vtx) onto the arms. I'm working on a regular x as well. Attributes of this frame.
I'm working on the rear and front TPU parts at the moment, here is an early draft of the rear mount. 06-Feb-2024, 12:47 PM Hi Ph2t, No standoffs...Now, that is really interesting ! Nice looking frame. Later, iFly 10-Mar-2024, 04:26 AM So a big update for this thread. shaping up to build my first self designed prototype. I got the CF cut from china and finalised the first draft design of the tpu parts. The frame is 1.5mm top plate and 2mm bottom plate. This is a 1S design only. The 2mm bottom plate is a bit flexy so that will be cut again in 3mm. With the tpu parts, plastic m2 screws, top and bottom frame it comes in at 14g. This puts it in competition with toothpick style frames when you include their tpu canopy. A tp3 clone with a lightweight tpu nano camera canopy weighs 18g so I'm happy with the dry weight. I'm going to build it up using the following.
Centre located stack screws will terminate under the top plate. The four side stack screws will terminate above the top plate. That way the centre of the top plate is flush for the lipo. It is designed to fit bigger 1S lipos, eg: 850mAh+ Lipo sits at the same level as props I'm excited to see if this improves handling. 1S is very unforgiving, small changes can reap large differences. All screws will be 2mm nylon with nylon nuts. Motor screws might be nylon as well, will have to test. Trying not to sound like a git but I like the organic lookinng design with lots of airflow. Time will tell how strong it is. It is definitely a frst draft cut, there are mistakes in some parts as well where I didn't centre everything correctly in tinkercad. Next time tell them T700 carbon cut along the weave (rotate drawing 45°). Nylon bolts are great for light weight, not so much from crashes, titanium? Thanks for progress pics, fun project that's lookin pretty awesome! 10-Mar-2024, 04:36 PM Looking very nice. Is there a reason you went with stretched-X layout? 10-Mar-2024, 11:33 PM (10-Mar-2024, 03:44 PM)skywanderer Wrote: Wow you've advanced quickly with your CAD! Thankyou man, yes have learned a lot along the way with the tinkercad software. I know having the cf weave aligned with the cut helps, does it improve rigidity? I think with the bolts the success would vary depending on the weight. I've tried a few setups now with nylon screws, as long as the weight is down you can get some longevity out of them. This design being side by side arrangement makes for a lot of screws so keeping the nylon helps with the weight. 10-Mar-2024, 11:35 PM (10-Mar-2024, 04:36 PM)mstc Wrote: Looking very nice. Is there a reason you went with stretched-X layout? I wanted to go with the arms following the natural angle of the diamond shape from the stack. I have plans for a regular X layout as well, it is more along the lines of I'm learning tinkercad and getting the arms just right, distances, angles, etc is tricky, well at my skill level anyways 11-Mar-2024, 01:48 AM Hi ph2t, How do you like that TinkerCad? Yes like a sheet of plywood is strongest along the grain in top to bottom & side to side directions. Ideal for kwardkarpter arms is having most of the "grain" going in the direction of the arms extension, rotating the drawing projected onto the sheet for cutting does this, mostly. Not totally ideal in stretch X because the arms are not 90 degrees as in X because the X is elongated. Tradeoff is really nice handling as if on rails tho, imho...
