Turns out, the only thing I had to buy (that I didn't already have) was motors. So I ordered a cheap set of Racerstar BR2403 2300kV motors from Banggood for $23, and got everything together for this build. [Now, I don't have batteries for a quad this large yet (all of my builds to date have been 160 size or less), so I will have to buy those when I'm done. I'm not counting those as part of the build though, because I can use those on later quads as well.] Parts List:- Frame: Space One 220X (I have the upper plate, but will probably use a printed pod)
- Flight Controller: Flip32 F4 (REVO)
- PDB: HUBOSD Eco H-type
- ESCs: Afro 20A w/BEC
- Motors: RacerStar BR2403 2300kV
- Camera: Foxeer HS1177
- Video Tx: Eachine ET200 200mW or Quanum Elite 25mW (I will decide which one later)
- Receiver: Spektrum DSMX Satellite
- Props: Various 5"
- Buzzer
- Misc plugs, wires, and hardware
This will be my first "big" FPV quad. I am not feeling any pressure about this build, and it may not be the prettiest thing when I'm done, but I'm really looking forward to completing it (and fairly quickly), and throwing it around the sky! More soon... *[Ok - so it's not really a $23 quad, but those other parts were purchased long ago (or given to me), forgotten, written off, and/or ignored, and were just going to sit there in drawers not being used.] Posts: 26 Threads: 7 Likes Received: 28 in 15 posts Likes Given: 52 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 0 well i think it will be a nice flyer with decent components. esc's may be the weakest spot.. what firmware are they using? i'm little suspicious bout them :] • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 (15-May-2017, 02:02 AM)pips Wrote: well i think it will be a nice flyer with decent components. esc's may be the weakest spot.. what firmware are they using? i'm little suspicious bout them :] Yeah, they're kinda big, old, and klunky too, but I'm determined to "use what I got". They have SimonK bootloader and firmware now - but they will soon have BLHeli firmware... • Posts: 26 Threads: 7 Likes Received: 28 in 15 posts Likes Given: 52 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 0 ..and no bullet connectors i hope :] • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 (15-May-2017, 02:27 AM)pips Wrote: ..and no bullet connectors i hope :] They do, but not for long... I've been reading about sync issues (and solutions) with these ESCs, so I will be going through them with a "fine tooth comb" (American slang - I will use the appropriate tools...). I agree that they are a weak link, but I am going to try to see if I can make them work, keeping with the spirit of this build. • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 30-May-2017, 06:12 PM (This post was last modified: 30-May-2017, 06:18 PM by sloscotty.) Finished the "LeftoversX" build. I did end up spending another $7 for shrink wrap for the Afro ESCs - so now it's a $30 quad... Later versions of Betaflight have supposedly included the ability to us 1-wire passthrough programming for Atmel w/SimonK bootloader, so I took a chance and wired the AFRO ESCs up before flashing BLHeli. Andrey's BLHeli configurater worked like a charm! I've got BLHeli 14.9 on these old AFRO 20A ESCs! I'm not going to post a bunch of build photos of this build. It's mostly standard stuff. I did design and 3D print a mount for my LED strip, and a platform for my Mobius 2. I also did this with the prop direction: http://intofpv.com/t-inverted-prop-direction Weight with everything (including Mobius) except the battery is 413 grams. The 4S batteries I have coming are reportedly 128 grams, so that will give me AUW of 541 grams. This is my first quad with XT60 connectors and I've only got a couple of 3S 850s (used for goggles) that I can do flight testing with - but I plan on doing that while I wait for my others to get here on Thursday or Friday. The plan is that this will be my FPV training quad. I will record all of the gory details with the Mobius 2, and chronicle it here on intoFPV. It should be pretty tough (5mm base plate - aluminum standoffs - long SS screws). I am really looking forward to it. Here are a couple of beauty shots: So now, I'm off to loctite the motor screws, charge my 2 small batteries, and give it a spin! Yeah, just gotta do a little hover testing is all. Check yaw direction and rates a bit - nothin fancy, no punches. Hopefully I can do that on less than 35A Posts: 1,773 Threads: 30 Likes Received: 1,199 in 755 posts Likes Given: 714 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 45 Looks awesome!! Is that the AX11 vtx antenna? The build went pretty smoothly - much more space to work with than the little things I've been building (And I feel pretty optimistic about how much I will learn with it - stay tuned...) |
