[HELP] Death roll |
02-Aug-2017, 09:24 AM I just got back from holiday in Wales where I had the chance to fly in amazing landscape So back to the issue. I tried to lowered the gyro but it doesn't help. Also, I flought with a 3s pack and it worked like a charm. I switched back to 4s and it crashed at the first flip. Do not hesitate to comment if this behaviour rings a bell to you. Now, I am thinking about upgrading the esc and motors to test on this build. Could you give me some advice ? If I can isolate the issue, I could also use the new hardware on a second similar build. Should I order some Blheli_s ESC like 4X Favourite FVT LittleBee Spring 30A ESC or is it a good time to try Blheli_32 ? For the motor on this quad ? Should I stick with this configuration and take some Emax RS2205S 2300kv ? 2600kv ? Is it a good configuration for this build ? Thank you all for your advices. Cheers 02-Aug-2017, 11:52 AM Personally I am waiting for the BLHELI_32 ESCs to get telemetry so we can get some feedback from the escs regarding motor speed, current consumtion, temperature just like the Kiss ESCs. otherwise I have no experience with BLHeli_32 but I am curious to see if they are much better than BLHeli_S. 02-Aug-2017, 12:59 PM (This post was last modified: 02-Aug-2017, 01:02 PM by Snuffypot11.) I was able to solve this by using my PDB's better reg and cutting out the reg from my FC but this might not apply to your setup. Other possible issue, the esc shuts down due to overheating or too high current...??? I know the overheat protection can be disabled in blheli suite but that's not necessarily any safer lol... instead of a crash you might have a fire AND a crash -_- PS: what's dterm transition (the lower slider on PID page) set to? Setting it low could make PID behaviour a lot smoother on stops especially which might reduce the risk of high voltage spikes. I have managed to do some flip and roll without crash on the first pack of my session a few days ago. This could definitely be an overheating situation. The setting dterm transition is set to 1. I will try to fly with a lower value like 0.5 ? But not today. The weather is not with us in Belgium. Also I wrap escs in Heatshrink and attach them with zip ties on top of the arms. Is there an easy alternative to improve heat dissipation ? Cheers 10-Aug-2017, 08:16 PM Have you done a blackbox log? could it be so simple that one of your escs are damaged in a way? 17-Aug-2017, 09:28 AM I had death rolls few days back use to just drop from sky without reason on rolls and flips But cause was motor windings took me while to figure it out witch motor but re-winded motor now fly's as dream These "Red Bottom motors" are not really good stators keep getting loose and damaging windings Regards 17-Aug-2017, 10:43 AM 17-Aug-2017, 10:47 AM (17-Aug-2017, 09:28 AM)Darozas Wrote: I had death rolls few days back use to just drop from sky without reason on rolls and flips Interesting. How can you tell if the motor needs to be re-winded ? What do I need to look for ? Is it difficult to do ? Could you post a image ? The thing is, I don't see how normal wear and tear would cause this... It's not like the magnets are powerful enough to be loosening the stator wires up or anything I would think if this is a characteristic of red bottoms they probably wouldn't be nearly as popular as they are right now... but who knows, maybe it's a wear and tear issue on the oldest ones around possibly? carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 (17-Aug-2017, 10:47 AM)Tox!cFPV Wrote: Interesting. First watch this I found good example on youtube have yours do this ?? It could be much less then in video All it do then relies on winding to stop stator and once enamel scrapes though it starts to short to housing. When this happens motor just freaks out and you just fall from sky. Its only badly effected in flips rolls coz u got load active braking going on witch makes the stator to move back and forwards. This is what I had. It drops from sky you pick it up and it fly's fine again. But what this broke my 4mm arm from drop I have investigated and found cause. Easy way to check witch motor is when it drops from sky quickly grab it and feel all motors warmest one should be the one that cause problem. this way I fixed my quad. got 6 motors and 4 out of 6 got developed moving stator. So all I did is re-winded and used better quality epoxy to keep it in place. Regards (17-Aug-2017, 11:04 AM)Carl.Vegas Wrote: I haven't heard of this issue before and TBH it's a little alarming! It's not like the magnets are powerful enough to be loosening the stator wires up or anything I bet you should not have this problem on Genuine Emax motors. Im talking here clone one cheap motor cheap stuff been used to assembly it (Epoxy and stuff) Regards 17-Aug-2017, 02:34 PM (17-Aug-2017, 12:14 PM)Darozas Wrote: I bet you should not have this problem on Genuine Emax motors. However, I don't think this is related to my issue. I don't experience the behaviour from the video. I just tested new ESC (DYS 30A) and changed the ESC protocol to DSHOT. That was not it either. What I can say is that this is not happening in every situation. If I take off and directly attempt a roll, it usually handle it without problem. But, if I take off, cruise a little and then enter a roll, it will fall. I join a new BlacBox File . Is there something wrong with motor 2 or 3 ? Again, thank you all for taking the time to help me Toxic, I've had "random death rolls" issues 3 times on different quads. 1 time it was due to a motor that went bad. It flew fine most of the time, but would occasionally twitch causing the quad to flip out and crash. The other 2 were BOTH from hairline fractures in the frame on the arm. Neither of them was immediately noticeable until I manually pushed upward on the arm and noticed it moved more than the other 3 arms. In both cases the quad would always flip out on full throttle punches but fly perfectly fine on slow throttle increases (even to 100% as long as it was slowly). Both of those quads got transported to brand new frames entirely and worked perfectly. So have you checked your frame? |
