[HELP] Death roll
#31
(22-Aug-2017, 08:55 PM)Tox!cFPV Wrote: Thank you for the explanation.
However, I don't think this is related to my issue. I don't experience the behaviour from  the video.

I just tested new ESC (DYS 30A) and changed the ESC protocol  to DSHOT.  That was not it either.

What I can say is that this is not happening in every situation. If I take off and directly attempt a roll, it usually handle it without problem.
But, if I take off, cruise a little and then enter a roll, it will fall.

I join a new BlacBox File .   Is there something wrong with motor 2 or 3 ?

Again, thank you all for taking the time to help me  Smile

Swap motors 1 with 2 and check where it fails again

If it fails on motor 1 then you know its motor if it do fail on motor 2 then problem is not motor.

If all good on cold and when you fly for a bit motor gets wormer and heat do expand steel when heated could start to move.Worth checking.

Try swap motors first and check black box again when It do this again

I struggled to find time to work on the hobby the past week.

I will do the swap it and give you an update asap.

So I am back. Sorry for the delay.

I switch motor 1 and 2.
In the black box file, motor 1 goes at 100% at soon as I start the hard maneuver and stays there until I disarm.
I will try again by replacing motor 1 and get back at you.

So you swapped motor 1 with 2 right?

And now motor 2 playing up right? (Witch was Motor 1 before)

Take hosing off and try to move stator by hand on this motor if you don't have spare motor for sure.

Then if stator moves use multimeter to check continuity from windings just by touching stator with one probe and wire with other. Iff you get beep while moving stator that you know its motor shorting.

But would be better if you replace it with spare motor for now

Let me know results

Exactly. New motor 2 that was 1 looks fine now.

I don't have new replacement motor to test right now.
I will try and test the motor and let you know.

Cheers

Looking forwards!!!

Rewind it save your self a fortune not just money but time

Takes me around one hour to rewind motor (No rush)

So If I rip windings I can get back to field in no time (Don't have to wait postman)

Hey Darozas,

The stator does not move at all.
And I couldn't manage to have a beep between wire and stator.

However, I found some nail polish that I used as substitute to loctite which leaked on top and bottom of the rotor magnets.
Could it have influence on the motor behaviour ?

I'm pretty new at this, but had issues when trying to do flips, etc. or just extreme angles: the quad whould just 'flip out' (no pun intended) and crash. I had a switch selecting headless mode, and once I turned it off everything was back to normal. Wierd and possibly unrelated.

can you ges some close shots of windings ??

Nail polish is not conductive should not cause motor do this .

Do this connect batt (props OFF) connect to betaflight over usb then go to motors tab enable motors and keep playing in short burst  with throttle on motor 1 while keep watching motor its self even try to film it

(Start stom motions would help to spot probs)

When motor stops or weirdly starts react to commands you should see some sort off movement in stator

get video done move throttle up and down quick in different values (dont let motor stop fully)

I have tested those motors already before without experiencing this.
But now, it is real bad.

Look for yourself.

Motor become real hot when doing this and smells bad too.

Smells bad coz windings burning that's why its getting hot

Stop doing this it may kill esc

Ar u UK based??  I can rewind motor for u

If not just get new motor problem solved

So now u know its motor 100%

No, not UK.  I am from Belgium.
But I am interested in learning how to do it. Do I have to buy some new wire ?

I tested with two older motor. The first is doing exactly the same thing.
The second is doing ok but the sound is not nice. Like if the rolling was in bad shape or something.
I will test the rig sometimes this week.

In the mean time, I broke the usb port on the FC... So I guess will be fixing that first.

Thanks a lot for your help friend.

I found some video and explanation about how to wind motors.
So I would like to attempt to do it myself.

I just have one question for the moment:  which wire to buy ? Do you have some reference ?

Hi

i dont have to buy wire just yet Big Grin

I have salvage from 24v transformers i had laying about (Like wash mashine pump) do have tons of it.

If you gonna go for single strand winding go for 0.4 to 0.45 max (thicker would not make 12 turns

but 0.3 double strand works just fine (that what i have at the moment and its easier to wind in multi strand.

end get some epoxy ill need to protect winding from coming off the stator

wind in delta i have attached what i use there is some different variant on delta winding but i prefer this one.

And test for shorts when done before you connect to esc

Regards
