Hd zero trouble shoot after crash
#1
Not to far back I was flying my 5” glide with a 1w HDzero vtx…I was practicing maneuvers up high.. realized I was still in angle mode (from launch) and flipped the wrong switch (disarmed)..needless to say I forgot my throttle was up so I was unable to re arm. it hit HARD, luckily on a roof and not asphalt / concrete. I lost video, but the rig seemed ok.. rebooted, video returned.. but the range had dropped dramatically.. a recent day out, this rig showed no video again..figured it was toast.
I decided to install the “whoop” 25x25 vtx, (the one I “repaired” the ufl connector), I desoldered the antenna and installed RCMA pig tail (directly soldered).
I decided to bench test this vtx.. no video, installed another camera/mipi got video! Dug deeper, went of swap mipi cables on original.. as I removed the back of the camera, the mipi cable released “easy”, didn’t seem fully seated..THAT was my “no video” issue. The camera back plate does NOT fit directly against the mipi plug. I forget what camera it is..
Now, as I’m constantly man handling all these components on my bench… I noticed the rcma pigtail has separated.. NOT from the vtx, but the female plug.. now this pigtail was involved in the 60 foot dis-Arm..and possibly contributing to “poor range”..I then spliced a Mmcx female end, installed a new antenna..
Flew great after the “repairs”, no video drop and the range seems to be back…safe to say the HDZERO 1w vtx IS durable, and check your camera connections if u have video issues after a “crash”..
