Damaged LIPO after a crash - how bad is it ?
#1
I can fly !!!!
but I also still crash unwillingly LOL
So, my battery was hit by a rock, no puffing, no smell, smoke or fire (YET ??? LOL) here are 3 pics links :

1. how it looked after the crash - https://photos.app.goo.gl/vfaf4TJKnvdZ2jFH7
2. how it looks after i took some of the shrink cover to have a better view - https://photos.app.goo.gl/gYmVQgNaP6cKmuNn6
3. I was recommended to check the resistance of the cells, I have never done it before, so I don't know what to expect, this pic - https://photos.app.goo.gl/iEvPDMF65cPxR9au8
shows a good LIPO, under the MONITOR tab in my charger, it shows 18, 19, 20, 21 miliAmps, in the consequent cells, is this what I should expect to see in the damaged one ?
what is a bad sign ?
For now, the battery is still almost full, so I should discharge it to storage voltage probably, and I am keeping outside, under a half barrel for the night (I will out it inside a plastic bag to prevent humidity, as I was recommended by the local flying group)

I would bin it. That's quite bad damage and will have caused some internal damage to the makeup of the cells. Those internal cell resistances are pretty high. I'm only getting around 7-8mΩ per cell on LiPos that are 18 months old. The higher the number the worse state the cells are in.

It's not worth risking burning your premises down for the sake of $20. Discharge all the cells to zero volts and then send it to recycling.

But the 17,18,19,20 miliohm - those I get from a very new LIPO.
A LIPO that I have used only twice, that's not logic.

About the damaged one, I get it, I will bin it.
And off course a house fire worths more than few $$$.
I did try to discharge it to storage voltage, and the charger keeps beeping and saying : ERROR : low cell voltage. while in the MONITOR tab, it shows 4 cells, at 3.95v, so it seems weird. Here's what it shows : https://photos.app.goo.gl/9rSZScU7hWoZ2tTy6

Maybe the calibration of the resistance meter in your charger is way off, but for a LiPo cell those are pretty high resistances. I wouldn't expect those sort of readings from a brand new LiPo TBH.

1. I updtaed the previous post, please have a look.
2. what is the calibration ? I have this option, and I am going to search for Youtube videos about it, but what should I do in the calibration ?

Some lesser brands lipos can have high resistance brand new. It is not unheard of.

I am still using it, as it seems that the hit it got is very minuscule, it seems that this batteries are quite flexible...
It is being charged well and it works well. no smell, puff, or weird phenomenas.
Nevertheless, I keep this battery inside a plastic bag, on a block, under a half barrel, outside of my house.
