Happy on Stormy Day
#1
So here is my first flying day after spending 3 weeks on simulators. I was kind of frustrated while I was out there because I wasn't really able to make everything translate and I was killing batteries (I have another one that's completely done for now with a cell IR at over 60). As the day went on I got better at not killing my batteries and started to feel it but then I crashed hard into the ground and decided to wrap it up. When I reviewed the footage though I realized that while the big acro moves that I've been practicing haven't come across the change in how I control the quad does and so while this video may not appear to be a huge increase in skill the techniques are definitely different a little bit.

Also please forgive the stupid silliness at the end... Sometimes I have to admit to having bad humor!

Nice to see you back at the sticks and out at the park man, some cool moves with cool tunes... Shame about the humor! Tongue

It looked like you were burning some serious amps at times there... Carl.Vegas, LiPo Killah indeed! How hot was everything when you got down?

yeah... it's a tough transition doing crazy risky stuff in simulators and making that work in the air. I have to start all over again with learning how to fly in some ways.

The goggles I explained in one clip but it didn't make the cut because the camera slid while I was talking. The fan lead on my battery is no good so I leave them on my head so that they're warmed up and don't fog up.

lol... yes... bad humor is needed I think!

As for the amps... yes... it's gotten worse... I have KILLED 3 more lipos since Saturday... they were the Lumeniers though (which I've already determined cant handle how I fly). The batteries are too hot to touch, and now generally by about 1 min 30 the power starts to sag and I know that the battery is done for. I've only got 2 Lumeniers left... I'll be stocking up on R-Lines soon.

Big difference man! Thumbs Up

Remember when a few videos back i asked you about dterm slider settings, and after you adjusted it, you were not really used to the "direct" behaviour of the quad... well now you are, it looks super crisp, clean and controlled, like it very much. And the music too, nice video edit as well. Good stuff!

PS: Regarding the lipos... maybe it's also due to the spot you fly - that big open field is just tempting to push it hard. Smile

Thanks, it means a lot coming from one of the pilots that I really look up to!

Yeah... I have pushed setpoint weight all the way up to 2.55. I decided that I like the feel of as much of it as I can get. Transition is still at .6... this turns out to be the best feel for me and it was your advice that helped me get it there. It actually seems to impact the diatone even more than the bumblebee but I think part of that is COG and the fact that the bumblebee has these huge masses of weight hanging off the top and bottom whereas the diatone is kind of tight in the middle. Something new to learn in the end.

I've been out flying in middle georgia and central florida the last couple of days and cleaning it up a bit. Hopefully next weekend I can share some of that as well Smile

As for the big open field... yes... but it also takes the habit of going full throttle for several seconds at a time that I think compounds that. Unfortunately I've picked up that habit and now have to decide what I want to do about it. The first thing i am doing is replacing the Lumemire batteries with R-Lines.

Vegas says "I AM power hungry, and I'm not gonna change" what to do about it..? Get better batteries!

On the subject of replacing batteries, I came across this thread at RCGroups discussing 'Indestructible Quads' Black Label batteries, (and now Gold label LiHv). The owner of indestructible, Ke (aka maruchan1636 on RCG) seems to respond quite quickly to questions and has changed wire length and the outer wrapping of the battery after suggestions from his customers. Also now providing 5s and smaller capacity 4s for micro's due to popular demand! He is based in New York and at $22 for a 1300 or 1500mAh 4s with a 'true' 80C and $30 for a 1300MAh 80C 5S, seems like a bargain...

Not a single complaint in the 19 pages of thread that I have read so far!

He is a hobbyist and genuinely seems like an honest and likable guy, he posts the tracking number of his orders coming from China so everyone can see how orders are progressing, well worth supporting I reckon.

This vid is with some really high amperage testing (80A-120A), Josh Bardwell's vid was up to 60A

Thats a great tip Tom! I might have to try them out. I have to wait another week for my R-Lines to get in but maybe I'll place an order for one or two of these and see how they stack up.

The Lumeniers definitely don't cut it for the way that I fly, too much continuous high amperage draw. I'd rather get better batteries than start flying different too!

I placed an order for 3 of the black labels. I'll let everyone know what I think after I fly a few.

if you want to stop killing batteries there are few ways:
- don't fly -.... not an option...
- fly closer to the ground through the gates there... first start slowly then add the speed... -> open space + full powah!! is what kills the batteries Big Grin
- change props to lighter
- get more batteries
- get better batteries

i've also heard that you can change your style... but im a powah maniac Big Grin so i know how you feel putting thrtl to 100%

nice flying mate Smile
All the best
