I am new (never did FPV racing before) but I am trying to make the first step into it and trying to find the best radio I can for the least money ($60 - $100). The reason for this is because I do not know if I will enjoy it so I do not want to go balls out on a radio and then need to try and sell it later. Getting something budget that would get me up and running on a simulator and past my first quad or two would be ideal, and if it turns out it is not for me I can always hang the radio on the wall with my drones. Within the $100 budget I found the FlySky Fs-i6s for around $70 and the Turnigy Evolution for $90. I like the Turnigy however I saw some comments that it is not easy to use with a mini quad which would be my next step after getting comfortable on the simulator. Is it easier to use the Fs-i6s with a mini quad (something like bind-n-Fly)? I know a lot of people recommend the FrSky QX7 as a good entry level radio as it can take you a long way, but here where I live I think its around $140 so i would really rather not cashing that out right now. Of course if i progress far enough and love the experience I will later by a better radio. Please let me know which of the 2 above radios you guys recommend for under the $100 mark, also open to other radios within that price range. Thanks in advance. • Posts: 473 Threads: 105 Likes Received: 54 in 41 posts Likes Given: 33 Joined: Aug 2018 Reputation: 0 I have fs-i6 and works well for my whoop, micro and mini (INAV) With custom firmware, I can get rssi and voltage telemetry on the radio and 10 channels. • Posts: 307 Threads: 18 Likes Received: 69 in 48 posts Likes Given: 33 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 9 Maybe you can also take a look at the Jumper T12 https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t12-tx/ • Posts: 8 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 4 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 0 (08-Apr-2019, 11:17 AM)sim_tcr Wrote: I have fs-i6 and works well for my whoop, micro and mini (INAV) With custom firmware, I can get rssi and voltage telemetry on the radio and 10 channels. Cool, The fs-i6s i assume is slightly higher up so i should be good. Thank you! • Posts: 8 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 4 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 0 (08-Apr-2019, 11:31 AM)Dutch Drone Builder Wrote: Maybe you can also take a look at the Jumper T12 https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t12-tx/ Thank you, Taking a look at the link/reviews and see if i can find it near me. It's the big brother of the T12. It's got the same interface as the $400 Horus X10, and same controls as the $250 X9D. See my review for more. https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t16-radio/ • Posts: 307 Threads: 18 Likes Received: 69 in 48 posts Likes Given: 33 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 9 But for the $50 extra you could also buy a FrSky QX7 and you could that maybe sell easier • Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,156 in 1,744 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 (08-Apr-2019, 03:48 PM)Dutch Drone Builder Wrote: But for the $50 extra you could also buy a FrSky QX7 and you could that maybe sell easier what makes you think QX7 is easier to sell than other radios? • Posts: 21,188 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,928 in 6,604 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 08-Apr-2019, 04:31 PM (This post was last modified: 08-Apr-2019, 04:31 PM by SnowLeopardFPV.) OK, so it's $20 over your budget but you will easily sell it if you really don't get on with the hobby. FrSky are THE go to transmitters in the FPV world and there is a whole load of support for them in the FPV community if you get stuck. It's a no-brainer in my opinion. https://fpvracing.ch/de/74-funksystem • Posts: 307 Threads: 18 Likes Received: 69 in 48 posts Likes Given: 33 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 9 (08-Apr-2019, 04:29 PM)Oscar Wrote: what makes you think QX7 is easier to sell than other radios? As SnowLeopardFPV says, it's the go to transmitter. I wouldn't say that the Jumper is a bad radio, but not yet as populair as the FrSky at the moment. But that would be a matter of time. • Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,156 in 1,744 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 (08-Apr-2019, 04:46 PM)Dutch Drone Builder Wrote: As SnowLeopardFPV says, it's the go to transmitter. The T16 was only just released last month, and it's going to destroy the QX7 and X9D. By the time someone got their QX7, tried flying it for a few months, decided to sell out... it would be too late because no one would want to buy the QX7 anymore LOL Seriously, don't worry too much about re-selling. Buy what you think is best in terms of value. You don't get much back anyway when you sell something 2nd hand, might as well pick what you like the most. • Posts: 8 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 4 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 0 08-Apr-2019, 06:22 PM (This post was last modified: 08-Apr-2019, 06:25 PM by MerMer21.) When checking the availability of the mini quads they all have in the description or name of the product “FrSky” so might be a no brainer indeed to just get the QX7. What got my attention with the Turnigy is the portability to be able to simply toss it in a bag and go and the game pad design (same setup i have for my current drones). Guess ill just wait a bit and then go for a QX7 when its availabe here on the online store in CH. • Posts: 8 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 4 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 0 https://www.flyingmachines.de/FrSky-Q-X7...-Edition_4 Can someone check this radio.. Seems to be a jumper T12 with FrSky receiver thing to the back (apologies for not knowing name of components and so on). Would this work with the mini quads labeled as “FrSky” PNP or BNP? • Posts: 21,188 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,928 in 6,604 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 (08-Apr-2019, 07:12 PM)MerMer21 Wrote: https://www.flyingmachines.de/FrSky-Q-X7...-Edition_4 Can someone check this radio.. Yes, the Jumper T12 is FrSky compatible. It has a JP4IN1 multiprotocol module in the back which supports the FrSky protocols amongst others. It will work with anything that is labelled FrSky PNP of BNF. Have a read of Oscar's following article on it, There are also a ton of reviews from the reputable reviewers on YouTube HERE. https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t12-tx |
