External VRX Module
#1
Hello all,
It's getting pretty cold around here, so I've been looking for ways to extend my video range, so I can fly from iniside the house or in my car. I've read that antenna extension cables will incur pretty bad losses over any useful distance, and that it's better to have the antenna as close as possible to the receiver.

So after looking around, I've found many solutions that allow the antenna/rx to be connected to a screen, but so far none that will allow me to send the signal to my goggles.

Has anybody tried taking the module off of the goggles, and extending the pins so the VRX isn't physically mounted to the goggles, but is still connected?

If that's not feasible, does anyone know if there is a way to go from a Fatshark style module to HDMI? My HDO2's have HDMI in, and even with the increased latency it should still be good enough to fly around the yard.

Thanks in advance!

HDMI carries a digital signal, assume you are receiving analog video. In which case you would need an HDMI to Analog/RCA convertor if you want to use the HDMI port and that would add extra latency as well as create extra hassles. Don't your goggles come with a video in port/cable. Just use the fatshark AV IN cable

Some of the older/larger receivers have a RCA video out plug, otherwise if you want to use a goggles module, you would need to power the module in addition to splicing in the Video/Gnd pins am rig up some protective housing.

Thanks, for some reason I just totally discounted the AV port on the goggles. That seems much simpler than adding extra encoding and slowing everything down. I'm working on an enclosure to hold the VRX and a battery so it can be powered separately from the goggles. I'm not sure if my goggles came with the AV wire, but I might just make my own to avoid having the extra audio cables and the connectors in the middle of the wire.

I have some testing to do, thanks for the input.

You can also pick up an inexpensive analog adapter for the DJI V1/V2 goggles and modify that. Not sure if the connector is directly compatible with FS, but you will need to splice in longer wires anyways. You can then move your VRX from goggles to adapter just by plugging/unplugging.
