Wonder where this leaves the UI for (race|clean|beta)flight? • Posts: 5,322 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,159 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 07-Dec-2017, 01:25 PM (This post was last modified: 17-Dec-2017, 06:45 PM by Oscar.) What will Betaflight do since Chrome apps are going away? The native configurator is available for testing now! this might help: https://oscarliang.com/download-betaflig...figurator/ • Posts: 15 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 7 in 4 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 0 07-Dec-2017, 02:15 PM (This post was last modified: 07-Dec-2017, 02:17 PM by gmk.) Hey Oscar, thanks for the link to the native configurator, I hadn't heard about it! I thought they would do something with NW.js or Electron. Makes perfect sense, as they can use the same codebase rather than starting over. • Posts: 1,773 Threads: 30 Likes Received: 1,199 in 755 posts Likes Given: 714 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 45 I've heard that Google is pulling the plug on this because not enough people use them. In fact to quote them just “1% of users on Windows, Mac and Linux actively use Chrome packaged apps" • Posts: 15 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 7 in 4 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 0 1% of chrome users is ~= 20,000,000 people Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Yeah, it doesn't matter that a community like ours considers a handful of chrome apps to be essential. We just have to get over it because we're not a big enough group to get support from someone as big as Google. I say the above with partial sarcastic bitterness, and partially with an understanding of the pragmatism of the decision. I blame them for screwing us up, but I don't blame them for the decision... if that makes sense? carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 I just downloaded the standalone app, though it is just a Release Candidate presently. It works fine. I agree that it feels like the big G is leaving the little people to deal with our own issues. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! And BTW, INAV also has standalone version. Cleanflight does not • Posts: 1,149 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 704 in 450 posts Likes Given: 1,189 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 30 12-Dec-2017, 12:20 PM (This post was last modified: 12-Dec-2017, 12:21 PM by fftunes.) So... will current apps keep working, or might a future chrome browser update disable the app functionality completely? • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Based on the article it looks like they'll keep working, but I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they kill all of them on us. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 (12-Dec-2017, 03:33 PM)Carl.Vegas Wrote: Based on the article it looks like they'll keep working, but I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they kill all of them on us. This is my feeling as well, but for now my understanding is they will continue to provide browser extension style apps and are doing away with external type apps only. At least BF is looking at this seriously enough to develop an honest standalone application for us to shift to. This leave BHeli and Cleanflight to follow suit...hopefully sooner than later! Chrome App is/was a great solution to compatibility. Posts: 43 Threads: 4 Likes Received: 14 in 9 posts Likes Given: 15 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 1 Are the newer apps not extensions? Those won't be affected they say. Apps will be available on Chrome OS. Once I figured out the permissions issue, I have been able to use my Windows and Linux computers without being able to tell the difference in the interfaces. Not sure if the standalones work with Wine, so it would be either VBox or Windows to use them if not. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) • |
