Betaflight not seeing any activity from receiver
#1
Hello, I was wondering if anyone hete would have an answer to a problem that I am having.
Now, this is my first time building an fpv drone, so there is quite a possibility that I'm missing something obvious but here it goes.

Build info that is relevant:
Fc: Racerstar F4S AIO
https://www.banggood.com/Racerstar-StarF...rehouse=UK
Receiver + transmitter combo: FlySky FS-I6 & FS-IA6B
https://www.banggood.com/FlySky-FS-i6-2_...rehouse=CN

The receiver is connected to the SBUS pad on the FC.

I have bound the transmitter to the receiver, as in, I see the receiver on the lcd of the transmitter and the led on the receiver does not blink anymore but is static.

In the rx setup in the transmitter, I am using AFHDS 2A and PPM output is set to on.

I have set the receiver mode to serial based receiver, IBUS.

I have set serial rx on uart 1, but I have tried all of them.

With all of these settings, I am not getting any movement of the bars in the receiver tab in betaflight.

These are some things that I have tried:
- PPM off in the transmitter
- Rebound the receiver to the transmitter multiple times
- Tried different receiver options in betaflight, ex. PWM PPM.
- Tried some of the other options instead of IBUS
- Tried putting the serial rx on different uarts, including the times where I changed any receiver options

Does anyone know what the problem is, and how to fix it? Or do I have some faulty equipment?
Any help would be appreciated!

You can't connect to SBUS because that has inverted circuit. You want to connect to RX6. Then change the serial rx to UART 6.

If this doesn't work, then post a dump file and photos of your wiring.

I did some tinkering myself and ended up trying connecting it to RX6, wich seemed promising but I have not had the time to test it in the field yet. But you saying that this is an actual sollution gives high hopes.

I still have one more question. If I want to use smart audio on this board, Is it still possible for me to connect the smart audio to TX6? Or would that only bring problems with it since the receiver is connected to RX6?

So you can't use a hardware UART for two different things. Once you use either the an RX or a TX, that is it. But you can remap the TX6 (in your case) to a softserial and use it for Smartaudio.

So yes, you can have Smartaudio, but not the way you think. Anyways, once you have control working, I can help you get Smartaudio working.

So I got my transmitter working and added an arm switch, de soldered the smart audio wire for the time being. But right now the quad is behaving quite weird. I set it down in the grass, armed it and slowly raised the throttle untill it would lift off. Instead, it would just make a big jump, and then disarmed itself. On the bench it is also behaving weird, of wich I included a video here:

I found a video by jushua barrdwell that explains why they are ramping in PRM in the bench, but I still don't know why the motors behave so agressively when I pick up the quad, wich is possibly the same reason why it jumps after wanting to take off.

Is it jumping straight up or flipping? Bench test without props doesn't tell you much.

I would double check all the basic and that they are all correct.

FC orientation
Motor orientation. motor spin. prop direction and properly mounted props.
signal wire going to the correct motor.

the FC is likely disarming because it is sensing a TAZ event.

Both jumping and flipping if I remember correctly from the few tests I did, not specificaly one or the other. The height of the jump was also not constant.

FC onrientation is correct.
All of the motors seem to be spinnin the in opposite direction that is on the screen in betaflight.

Could you tell me what TAZ means?

Whoops, did not check the "motor direction is reversed" button, wobbling seems to be fixed now, will test it in the field one I have the chance

Sounds like you got it figured out. Motor spin the wrong direction will make a very bad flying quadcopter.

Here is the information on anti-taz (runaway prevention).
