Battery location
#1
I have a general question on battery placment , looking for input on where battery should be strapped. Bottom, top? I had a 60' face plant that broke top frame and burnt 1 cell on my 3 cell lipo (wear your lanyard) kinda got me thinking maybe battery location is not as critical as i thought???

Mostly it is personal preference and how you like the COG of your craft to sit. I have the battery mounted to the top plate of my 5", but prefer the packs strapped to the bottom plate of my 2.5" and 3" craft. Neither has shown to be "the better way" for me, so that is how I leave things configured.

Most craft don't allow you a choices. It has to be mounted one way and one way only. I wondered about this when I first started too. Now I can care less. Lipo can get damaged whether it is on top or bottom on any given crash.

The big boys are flying 6S on sub-250 g builds. We all have catching up to do. Ha ha.

For some reason, I prefer bottom-mount. First quad I flew top-mount and broke top-plate and standoffs on first crash. I build stronger now, so that probably wouldn't be an issue, but I still tend to like bottom-mount. (Bottom plate is always thicker.)

No, 5". Saw some guy with Mercia 5" on 6s doing 160mph. I am exaggerating on the weight, but it seems ultralight and 6S things are going.

I'm surprised the quad crowd is so late coming to 6S.

One of the biggest reason is, prior to this year, all competition races had to be 4S. The manufacturers didn't make a lot of stuff in 6S. A year from now, you will probably see more components that is 6S capable. Right now, 6s lipo in the 1000-1300 mah are slim picking. And 6s high kv motors are also slim picking.

Ah, that makes sense.  If the racing world sets standards for the industry, they should have an open or unlimited class.  That would bring innovation on a whole other level.

i can confirm that 6S feels better than 4S in the air. It's not just for racing and I think freestyle flying can benefit from higher voltage too.

Feel like constantly chasing perfection. Once you think you almost got it, see how far you are really.
