I have the following setup to charge my lipos: Accucell 6 (80W/10A) charger (here is the HK link), a 6 way balance board and a power supply that can output 10a (just bought a new one which can also output 16A just for the problem that I am writing here about --> see also attached pic for the new setup with the same problem). I want to charge my 6x 1.550mah Tattu lipos at the same time: 6x1550mah = 9.3A --> which I set up the charger to balance charge my Lipos. what I notice is that the charger is just indicating that it is charging only around 5.0-5.3A. and a full charge for the 6 lipos takes me almost 2h. Now the idea of the balance board was to only charge them all at around 1h and I thought that with a max output of this charger of 10A I am safe. Can any one explain me where mistake is and why it is only charging at max. 5.3A if it can possible could go up to 10A? Is it the balance board? is there some kind of protection inside? what did I miss? thank you very much in advance for some helpful comments. - Kleinerbug_FPV Quad Garage: 1x KISSed QAV 210 on RS2205, 1x Betaflight ARC 200 on RS2205, 1x whooped FuriBee F36 Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 What's getting in the way is your charger's maximum wattage. Based on Oscar's formula on this post you would need 156.24 watts to charge a 4s [email protected]. Since your charger only is 80watts it's charging at about half. I am guessing you're charging 4 cell batteries. To get you're wattage needed in this case you would need to use the following formulas cells*4.2=volts=4*42=16.8, batteries*amps=totalamps=1.55*6=9.3, volts*totalamps=wattage=16.8*9.3=156.24 If you were charging 2s batteries it could do them at the rate you're trying to charge them at I believe but since you probably are charging 4s batteries the charger is being smart and limiting itself to charge safely. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 35 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 10 in 8 posts Likes Given: 7 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 0 (06-Jun-2017, 08:59 PM)Carl.Vegas Wrote: What's getting in the way is your charger's maximum wattage. Actually trojan goat just posted a thread here with several pictures of that charger. He seems to be a rather credible guy and an admirable racer so that alone sort of makes for an accidental endorsement (even if he didn't officially mean to) My opinion based on the description, and the fact that I know of another member on here that seems to be using one... I think I might be interested myself! I paid about 60 bucks for my charger that gets under 4 amps on 4s batteries. I felt a little bamboozled as well but it was one of my very early purchases and I really didn't know any better. At the time all I was trying to charge was fatshark batteries. Now I know better and I have to admit you found a good option that I am interested in now too! This is one of those... converting from newby to experienced pilot pains that just has to be worked through. The good news is the Accucell can still be useful by just getting a second parallel board (I have the exact same one BTW... although I've burnt out some of the 4s balance lead pins so I only do 5 batteries at a time on mine... moral of the story: don't connect balance leads backwards lol)... Charge batteries on both chargers, then when the faster one is done, transfer the slower one over to finish the job... This way you have a head start for the second batch. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 07-Jun-2017, 09:49 AM (This post was last modified: 07-Jun-2017, 11:02 AM by Oscar.) Apart from max current, there is also max power restriction which depends on the charging voltage you are using. 80w / 16.8v = 4.7A But because your lipo start at lower voltage e.g. 3.5V, at the beginning charge current is slightly higher e.g. 5.7A. But gradually as you charge, the highest current allowed would be reduced. Most chargers these days are smart enough to work this out themselves and put a cap on your charge current automatically. Another good read too. I did forget to mention the change in voltage and just calculated with the max voltage because that's eventually what the charger would need to handle (or at least that was my logic). After reading the article I still think this little pocket monster of a charger (the one that Kleinerbug_FPV asked about above) looks like a pretty good deal https://www.getfpv.com/isdt-q6-plus-300w...gQodiEUCgg carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 5,319 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,031 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 Yea iSDT makes some really good portable chargers. They don't have the best quality control, but when they work they are fantastic I own the bigger brother version, SC620 500W still compact enough to use at the field Posts: 947 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 350 in 248 posts Likes Given: 164 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 34 This charger works well: https://www.banggood.com/Charsoon-Antima...mds=search I just ordered an ISDT myself. A friend of mine have one and he is very happy with it. It is a whole lot smaller than the Charsoon, but the fan on the ISDT is more noisy when it runs. https://www.banggood.com/ISDT-Q6-Plus-30...mds=search • Posts: 35 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 10 in 8 posts Likes Given: 7 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 0 I had to do an update on my Accucell 6 so that I was able to charge the Fatshark lipos without the balance lead. Does any1 know if this is also the case with this charger: iSDT SMART CHARGER Q6 Plus. Can you charge lipos withput the Balance lead and just the main power lead as for the FS Lipos? I think I will get this one then soon. The fan on the Accucell 6 is also very noisy...and I heard that it is also a bad Quality fan. - Kleinerbug_FPV Quad Garage: 1x KISSed QAV 210 on RS2205, 1x Betaflight ARC 200 on RS2205, 1x whooped FuriBee F36 • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 The Charsoon looks pretty good too. I might go with the ISDT though and risk the QA shortcomings just because of the smaller form factor. I am not as pressed on space now that I have split up my gear between a box and a tool bag but still every cm^3 counts. I can deal with the noise too. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • |
