First up I tried to find via doing internet searches is out is there any negatives by just charging batteries via battery balance leads, haven't found any, maybe people here might tell me of some. The battery charger that I found is a HGLRC Thor 1-2S 4-way Charger, it can charge 1S and 2S batteries at the same time, I like this charger as I can select 4.2V or 4.35V , I only charge to 4.2V even though I do have HV batteries as they last longer changing to 4.2V only. I have been using this changer now for about 5 months, so all good so far. Does anyone know of any other battery chargers like this? That can change 2S batteries like a 1S Whoop battery changer can? • Posts: 6,092 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,283 in 1,830 posts Likes Given: 4,721 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 charge over balancelead does allow balancing cells, it might be a good charger for 2s. if you dont fly the hv lipos, they last longer ;-) you miss a lot of capacity by charging them as normal lipos, but you does carry the weight of the capacity; i would suggest to use them charged to high voltage to get the benefits of it • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 You don't need any special parallel board. Just a normal parallel. You do need to make a special cable. Anyways, this article will explain it. And it is perfectly good to charge this way. https://oscarliang.com/parallel-charging...rge-leads/ • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 18-Sep-2023, 04:11 PM (This post was last modified: 18-Sep-2023, 04:13 PM by voodoo614.) I wanted to add some caution, which is also mentioned in the article. You DO NOT want to charge at a high rate, otherwise you can overheat the small balance wire. Personally, I stick to 1S, 2S and 3S. Smaller capacity packs. And keep the rate at 1C. You of course can do the math and see what is the max you can go, but I am too lazy to do it. • Posts: 926 Threads: 68 Likes Received: 339 in 253 posts Likes Given: 153 Joined: Dec 2021 Reputation: 19 The limiting factor is the current rating of the balance plug/socket connectors. Current commonest type (there are still throwbacks around ) is max 3 Amps (Source: RS datasheet), and std balance lead cables, internal soldered connections, etc are all higher than that. Without connecting the main battery leads, the connectors of the balance lead pin/socket should therefore be kept under 3 Amps. Always check, and don't trust the manufacturers, there were some imbeciles I won't name selling 4S race packs a while back fitted with main red JST connectors rated for 6A MAX!! • Posts: 92 Threads: 7 Likes Received: 41 in 34 posts Likes Given: 25 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 2 (18-Sep-2023, 04:00 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: You don't need any special parallel board. The charge rate for this charger is not selectable I guess it would be lucky to be doing 1AMP probably more like a half an AMP, it's a rather simple changer with a voltage selector switch for each port, between 4.35 and 4.2V • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (20-Sep-2023, 04:08 PM)Cyberess Wrote: Hi Voodoo614, The changer that I have is not a parallel charging board, for instance I can mix 1S and 2S batteries at the same time, and say if one battery is 80% charged and another is 40% charged that is O.K. and I can change batteries while other batteries are changing just like using a ViFly WhoopStor 3 1S Battery Charger, but for 1s and "2S" Batteries Completely misread your question. For 1S, there are plenty of chargers that do this. Maybe do not have all the features as your charger, but can independently charge 4 1s cells. Emax has one similar to yours. It can charge two 1s and two 2S independently. https://emax-usa.com/products/emax-charg...door-drone Posts: 92 Threads: 7 Likes Received: 41 in 34 posts Likes Given: 25 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 2 (27-Sep-2023, 04:26 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: <snip> Emax has one similar to yours.
