I have seen these "bottom slung" electronics frames from time to time. Looks heavy duty. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Yea it reminds me a lot of Ummagawd's Remix or Airblade UAV's Nugget. Except this one's catered to weight with its 2020 stack and 12mm motor mounts. • Posts: 5,865 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,779 in 2,241 posts Likes Given: 7,627 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 I have added this frame to my Parts Guide in the 4 inch Frames tab. Although the Shocker HD from Catalyst Machine Works is pitched as a "light weight" frame and I guess it is when you compare it to the more traditional "heavy" 5 inch frames, it is still more than 10 grams heavier than an unmodified Katana 2 4 inch frame and 15 grams heavier than the AirBlade Transformer Mini 4 inch LR. So far, the lightest 4 inch frame is the FPV Cycle (KababFPV) Power Pick frame at 24 grams, but you might or might not get a vista rig to fit comfortably. I enjoy flying my light Fpvcycle Fouride 5" a lot and this will be similar with longer flight time, low noise park cruising /freestyle. Selling a Cinewhoop to make space for this. Hi jasper, Looking forward to your build thread and some flight video Posts: 731 Threads: 20 Likes Received: 490 in 341 posts Likes Given: 420 Joined: Nov 2019 Reputation: 20 I will do a build thread. Might be a while yet as it is on preorder for the second batch and I chose the slow freight option to Australia approaching festive season. Getting more Fpvcycle 2203/3000kv for the build. Leaning away from the micro long range though. Going back to 7" and above. I've been waiting for someone to mention this frame. I just got a baby crocodile HD and it’s a blast to fly.I would like to build another 4” and the Shocker 4” does look very interesting and I like the way it protects electronics. I don’t like the Caddx Vista on top of flight controller in baby crocodile and it looks like the Shocker 4” may be better at protecting equipment. I wouldn’t know what motors or components to use on shocker. My baby crocodile uses 1404 and they are plenty powerful enough and fast for my level of flying. I’d need some help picking out the components for Shocker 4”. • Posts: 21,218 Threads: 583 Likes Received: 8,948 in 6,622 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 JB is waiting for his 4" Shocker from Catalyst Machine Works, so you may want to wait for his review, especially if you can't fly for a while anyway due to the poor weather. It's supposed to be quite a heavy 4" frame, but all Catalyst Machine Works frames are pretty heavy so it follows suit. • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 (06-Dec-2020, 07:28 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: JB is waiting for his 4" Shocker from Catalyst Machine Works, so you may want to wait for his review, especially if you can't fly for a while anyway due to the poor weather. Whether things have changed JB was supposed to review the 4” shocker against the other LR 4” drones but CM sent him a 5” and CM didn’t want him comparing them with the others. You got a good point and there’s probably new technology likely coming out soon for Christmas or next spring. I do enjoy building but what I really need is a tank or basher to learn how to use goggles. LOS feels natural but FPV is completely different. How are whoops on taking crashes? • Posts: 21,218 Threads: 583 Likes Received: 8,948 in 6,622 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 CMW sent JB him the 5" version of the Shocker by mistake but they are going to send him a 4" as well which he said he'd review, but not up against the other 4 he's already reviewed because both he and CMW agreed that even the 4" Shocker was in a different class category to the other 4" long range quads, so it wouldn't be fair to compare them. So it will just be a standalone review. Whoops usually take loads of crashes without things breaking anything. • Posts: 5,865 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,779 in 2,241 posts Likes Given: 7,627 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 06-Dec-2020, 11:49 PM (This post was last modified: 06-Dec-2020, 11:51 PM by iFly4rotors.) Yeah, the Shocker is an unusual {but not unique, I have seen others} in that the arms are attached to the top plate instead of the bottom plate so the design is a little different than the other 4 inchers. Yeah, small whoops in the 65mm to 85mm {that is frame not props} take a beating and keep on flying. Since they don't hurt things that they crash into, you can safely fly them in the house. • |
