A little bit bigger, added another 95 to the Whoop Group
#1
Was on a thread about some 1205.5 motors, and it kinda went off from there, and I was comparing some 1103s with some 1202s on my 85s. One of the guys came across a really good sale at CycloneFPV on some HGLRC 1103s in 10,000kv & 8000kv for $3.99, and I grabbed six of the 10,000s for another 85 to see how that does compared to my 1103/11,000 Skystars 85 . . . and just because 85 Whoops are flippin awesome outside fliers. I went back to get another set while they were still on sale & they changed the sale to a ten pack @ $3.99 a motor, so I split the order with some 8000s I wanted to try on a 95, and compare that with my GEP 1202/8000s on a 95. $4 a motor, especially for HGLRC motors was too good to pass up.

I ended up putting the 95 together first, and seems like it's gonna be another awesome outside Whoop . . . unfortunately I'm running out of nice outside weather time pretty quick this time of year. I use the Beta 95 frames, and their "regular" 85 frames too, but those are the only two BetaFPV products I'll still buy. I used a 12amp Supra board I had on an 85 I took apart, an XM+, a RunCam switchable 200mW & a Foxeer Razer with a Lolli v2. The purple props I have on it now are HQ 2.5x3.5 tri-blades. Ended up @ 69 1/2 grams, so not too portly for a 95 Whoop . . . Got 7 minutes on an RDQ 650 3S, just flying around and seeing how it does. I'll feed it a few more batts tomorrow, actually suppose to be beautiful for a handful of days here, and looks like a great time to get in some outside air while it's still nice out. My 95 with the GEP 1202s gets great air time, even better than the 85s, which stay in the air better than the minutes=mAh I try to get outta my bigger Whoops.

The 95s are faster than the 85s, but are starting to lose that "Whoopish" feeling flying them around, where the 85s outside, handle like a 65 Whoopin through the house, and give that invincible feeling I get flying my Whoops and feeling like I can get away with any crazyash stunt I try and pull off. I've never had a problem with a 95 doing what I've tried, it's just I'm a bit more hesitant about trying stuff because of that different feel to them. They still are an awesome fun Whoop for playing outside, but I always seem to go back to the 85s before I wind up my playtime.

Red canopy, purple props is the HGLRC 1103/8000s 95.

Pink canopy, blue props is the GEP 1202/8000s 95.

i would suggest a try on hq65mm blades, with a little bit throttle limit. it will go more responsive, on lowered throttle the response can result in great handling, precision.
you could run them up to 3s.

Cute little buggers. Did you have any issues with the props hitting the prop guard supports with the 1103’s?
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

65mm are the 2 1/2" props ?? That's the size I've been using on the 95 frames as well as the Primo 3" with the HGLRC ducts for 2 1/2", and as big as will fit in the ducts. I have a couple bags full of different 2 1/2" tri & 4 blades, and the one bag a bunch of Avan Rush tri-blades I got dirt cheap. I've always been into trying different props on my toys, and even in my same size Whoop Groups, the different motors seem to find a set of props they like the best, and can vary between number of blades as well as pitch.

Only props I really don't like are the bi-blades. I gave them an honest try on a couple Picks when I first started with them. The Flying Dentist went on and on and on and . . . about how magical & wonderful the bi-blades were on his new creation . . . I thought they sucked pond scum . . . couldn't stand how the Picks flew and was ready to deconstruct them and turn them back into Whoops. Then I put a set of tri-blades on the one . . . and like real magic, they turned into something that handled almost as good as a Whoop and saved them from oblivion . . .

For a while now, I've been setting the throttle limit on my quads at 85/90%. I've been mostly using different 12amp boards for my 2S & 3S builds, and I prefer the lower/wider motors with a higher kv. I'll spend the majority of my flights in the mid to mid/high range, and can run out of room in my neighborhood course real quick with it pegged, even at the 85% throttle. From all the charts I've seen, the biggest amp pull is in the last 10-20% throttle range, and doesn't seem to give it that much more power to be worth pushing the motors and the board for that extra little bit.

Plus, here's something from Happymodel when they were talking about lowering the throttle limit on the Mobula HD with the 1102/10,000kvs that were blowing out the ESCs on the 5amp boards,

"In order to reduce risk from the Mobula7 HD (10000kv motor version )esc burnt , we suggest to limit the throttle scales to 75% .
Performance is almost the same like  new 9000KV version.
The cli command is :
set throttle_limit_type = scale
set throttle_limit_percent = 75
save"

They put this out right before they changed the motors over to the 9,000kvs & I think on the ?? Sailfly ?? even backed off to 8500kv motors. It seems from this that the kv percentage drop is not proportional to the drop in throttle percentage. At a 75% throttle limit, the kv "should" drop down to 7500kv, not 9000kv.

The pics are a 3" Gnarly Primo frame kit with HGLRC ducts for 2 1/2" props, the 3" duct props were too tight for the frame. I originally put the GEP 1202/8000s on it. Ant camera, Foxeer Pagoda, Avan Rush tri-blades.

Not with these HGLRC motors, but the other 95 with the GEPs, I used the Gnarly motor adapter/spacer on the 95 frame. I've had to use those & I've used the motor base I've cut out of the old trashed plastic Whoop frames as spacers on all my 85s with every brand of motor I've used.
