4S 2.5" Twiglet Build

What if you used two zip ties and leave the end sticking out where the yellow lines are in the pick and then do as iFly mentioned and heat shrink the antennas to the zip ties.

Yeah, it's probably the way i will go or at least try it. I f possible I would prefer something more solid than cable ties. A solid piece of plastic maybe. Something that doesn't really bend and is fairly strong. Then cable tie it on the top and send the cables out. The other option is to sent the cables vertical at the back of the canopy. Either way i want to keep them away from the props and frame as much as possible.

I will try a couple of different designs. See if I can find something that works and is also usable.

This was from a couple of years ago but I cut some short pieces of antenna tube (a little coffee straw will work as well) and hot glued them to the canopy.

The zip ties actually hold the antenna fairly rigid. I have done that on a few in the past.

It's going to be tomorrows job. I also don't have any lexan or similar plastic, so the splint will have to be something else. I have some ideas.

As to the antennas, I am probably going to try and send something up from the back like Brett's design. If I am going up, a zip tie is probably better and then use electrical tape to hold it in place for now. I bought some of thinnest heat shrink tubing I could find and it's still too big. It's one of my constant searches at the minute.

Hi Pathfinder,

Yeah, use what you have for a splint. I use the original JB Weld as a
glue for attaching the splint to the arms. Besides bonding the two
pieces together, it is pretty strong in and of itself.

This is the front arm pair from my Unsanctioned-1 build. For this one, I did
use a thin piece of carbon fiber attached with JB Weld original.

An interesting thing about the receiver antennas, lately, I have been using heat
shrink tubing over zip ties (like a tunnel), but NOT heat shrinking it as shown
in the following picture of my Baby Naz Build. I would normally trim the ends of
the zip tie.

Some time ago I picked up a set similar to this.

I also noticed that some of the home centers (Home Depot, Lowes) around here carry heat shrink tubing although it is heavier duty than the typical electronic tubing.

So off I went yesterday for a day out to see family and rip a few packs. Smile

So packs 1 & 2, Tattu 450's, ok flights. Pack 3, everything was going well until about two minutes in and i get a very undeserved RXLOSS about 25m away from me??? I flew it maybe 200m away earlier in the pack and no issue and it went from 50 to RXLOSS in half a second when 25m away. :| Then it gets better, with Pack 4. 3 mins in and video dies completely and I just checked it and the Diamond is very dead. So the Diamond dying might be due to previous damage from the crash the other day, it also landed in wet grass yesterday, so maybe water damage, who knows, but it's just part of the hobby, so not entirely pissed about it. I have another couple and several of the Whoop VTX left, so it will be resurrected. Smile

But the RXLOSS bugs me more. I did partially change the antenna positioning yesterday, so one of them was stuck up at the back. But it seems to have made pretty much zero difference. RSSI was still all over the place. Given I had unobstructed LoS for 180 degrees in front of me, for probably quarter of a mile, I would have expected a more steady rate instead of it bouncing around between 60's and 30's and it never seemed to get above 70.

Apart from that I enjoyed the flights and was really getting my groove back by the fourth pack. I was also flying for an audience. My nephew was in my van using a set of my VR02's and judging by the grin he had at the end, he enjoyed the show. Smile Now I just need to get him back to flying.

Hi Pathfinder,

Does that build have an ELRS receiver or an SPI FrSky?

From my experience, an SPI FrSky receiver can be a little "unstable" at times and
for no apparent reason. My Meteor 65 is particularly wonky. It is ok in the house,
but the range sucks when I try to fly it outside.

Nice flight. Wide Open Spaces.

Nope it's an FrSky.  If it was ELRS I could have flown it miles.  I might try and get an ELRS Rx on to this.  I toasted a pad on one of the UARTS, but since the VTX could use a softserial, I could use UART1 for the ELRS.  it just irks me that Flea, with the same setup flew all over the place and only failsafed once in about 6 months of flying and this one just seems to be randomly falling out of the sky when it shouldn't be. Tongue Apart from that it's been ok.

I think the way forward is to fix up the Darwin FC and swap it out.  The Darwin has SPI ELRS, so less hassle and more range.  Then when i have time and I don't know, the drive to modify this FC, then do it.  Right now, given the fact it seems kind of jinxed, I need to think on it. Smile I had a look and I have a few HM VTX that will straight swap.  Not going to use another Diamond though, it can have one of the cheap ones. Wink
