Ok so here is the deal. I crashed my 3 inch quad some time ago, fried a bunch of electronics and broke the frame beyond repair. So far 3 inch has been my favorite size to fly, just a bunch of fun. Now instead of going with another 3inch I want to build a 4 inch after checking whether the 1408 3750kv motors I still have could handle 4 inch props. Well they can so I guess I'm building a 4inch. 4 inch is better anyway since I want to carry a gopro session (my 3inch did this just fine but I'm thinking 4 inch has an even easier time). After some convo with hugnosed_bat I think i've settled for the rotorama spirit frame, light and sturdy is what I want and this one seems to fit that bill. Check it here: https://www.rotorama.com/akce/rotorama-spirit Now I some spare electronics lying around that I want to use. Here is the parts list so far: FC & ESC: SucceX Mini F4 V2 35A 2-6S Flight Stack (MPU6000) Camera: Foxeer Razor Micro 1.8mm Motors: GepRC 1408 3750kv Reciever: Crossfire nano rx with immortal-T for reliability. Props: HQ 4043 VTX: ?????? As you can see I'm missing a vtx. Rotorama suggest a tiny vtx with a soldered dipole antenna. Now my plan is to fly this quad in my city (Rotterdam) and dive all the awesome buildings here (also the reason I want to build a 4inch, less noisy and visible then a 5) but I have no experience with simple vtx's with soldered dipoles. How is the reception on them? Good enough or should I shell out for a nice 20x20 RUSH FPV vtx and a good antenna with a straight mmcx connection? Kind of worried another 20x20 board won't fit the stack. It does seem kind of tight in the spirit frame. Suggestions on this part are SUPERDUPER welcome. Last thing. I also have this 16x16 stack from iflight but I'm afraid it doesn't support enough AMPS to run my motors. it would really help shave some weight of this build though. HELP?! My last build the vtx is on the top of the quad. Once you put on the HD camera mount they seem to be protected well enough. I have never smashed one plus they get more air onto them so stay cooler. I tend to crash in ways that mainly hit the lipo on the ass which is where the vtx would sit in this case. I was thinking about the rush ultimate plus, i run it on another quad but it's rather big and would sticking out all over the place on this frame. The akk vtx's seem to be nice, never tried one but i only hear good things. I'll be looking into them, kind of forgot about they existed. There are so many options nowadays when it comes to vtx's. • Posts: 6,113 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,287 in 1,834 posts Likes Given: 4,737 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 i would go for a unify nano32, because of the small size its easyto find a place to mount. i beleive the stack would be very nice, the other parts seems nice aswell. Posts: 214 Threads: 9 Likes Received: 110 in 76 posts Likes Given: 34 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 6 I do like the nano32 for the form factor. Only thing missing for me is a mic. I really prefer to fly with audio. Now i do have some external mics but i don't know if that would work if i just wired it to the smart audio pad. Anyone that can clear that up for me? • Posts: 51 Threads: 12 Likes Received: 23 in 12 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2019 Reputation: 0 That doesn't work on the pro32 nano, I've tried it Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 Have you guys tried these recommendations on how to wire a mic inline with Smartaudio? http://team-blacksheep.freshdesk.com/sup...w-it-works Posts: 51 Threads: 12 Likes Received: 23 in 12 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2019 Reputation: 0 I did not, though I used this flytron mic which might have similar capacitance: https://flytron.com/osd-headtrackers/27-...cator.html The issue with the pro32 nano is it just doesn't send any signal over the 6.5ghz audio frequency (at least that's what the manual implies) Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I saw that in the manual that the Pro Nano will not carry audio. It is best to buy vtx with built-in mic like you linked. Posts: 214 Threads: 9 Likes Received: 110 in 76 posts Likes Given: 34 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 6 Thanks for all the replies! Wish all vtx's just came with a mic build in. I don't understand how so many people fly so good without audio. I really need to hear the motors to fly at my best. Looks like I'm going for the eachine atx03s that hugnosed linked. It will keep the weight of my build down and still have audio (also it's rather affordable and has 2-5 days on banggood) . I've read some people had range issues but my experience with eachine products has been pretty good so far. Would have preferred rush, matek or tbs but i don't like having a vtx that is larger then any other component in the build. It's already going to be slight crammed. And no tramp doesn't carry audio. Sometimes the add a seperate audio pad for people like me ? Ordered the rotorama spirit, can't wait to start mocking up! • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 (18-Jan-2020, 02:32 PM)Flickeryvision Wrote: Thanks for all the replies! I have been using the Eachine ATX and VTX 03's since I started building and have never had an issue with one that was not my own fault. I have run mine out to 700+ meters and there was some static, but totally flyable so range is not bad for a sub $11 VTX. They do get a little warm, but not overly so. One issue I ran into is that their diminutive size means the builder might be tempted to install them in places where they can potentially short other components. As to audio feed, I have always wondered about what it is useful for...LOL. I am usually flying in close enough (inside of 300m) that I can hear the quad as an environmental (if that makes sense). on in close passes, any bent props or sync issues are audible. Maybe if I understood how to set up audio I would utilize it. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I started out flying without and not getting why it would be usefull. After just buying an mr steele earbud for a few bucks since my vtx had a mic anyway just to try it out, a whole new world of throttle control opened up for me. Just hearing the motors rev up gives me so much more control on the throttle and really improves my fpv experience. I feel even more one with the quad. I know there is an 1/8" speaker socket on the underside of my Attitude's and I read it was for audio...but never took the time to actually check it out. I could hook one of our portable phone speakers there and test it, thanks for the FYI! Always excited to try something new One other thing about the ATX-03, you will likely want to switch out antennas. As I tend to fly with Pagoda style antennas, I had to install a UFL -> SMA adapter. This is where these little VTX's show themselves to be really nice! With good antenna, 200mw power and a tight hold to frequency will cover just about any flying inside about 300m with lots of scatter and obstruction. One other note that I made, you will want to "glue" the UFL connection. These little things move around a bit on tumbles and I have lost the connection. They will burn in about 30 seconds without an antenna. I tried hot glue, but the VTX will get it warm enough that the antenna connection can make it soften too much. I started using this as antenna glue and have not had an antenna pull loose since. Can still be removed if need be as it does not harden to cement (yes, aware it is designated for RX). It went up a dollar since I bought mine...but the tube seriously has enough for about 50,000+ antenna mountings. I wanted to mention that in my efforts to figure out mounting options, a piece of shrink tube around the unit will not cause it too overheat. Cut away for the display and then you do not have to worry about shorting SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) • |
