Skip 5, just go 7 inch?
#1
I'm more of a cruiser than freestyle or bando, but not quite long range. Currently my largest is my Diatone Roma LR4, and I've kept it under 250, so far. A larger lipo or GoPro would bring it over the weight.

If I'm going over 250g, and have to register anyway, I may as well....go big? From 250 grams to 55lbs is a pretty huge spread.

Not a huge market on 7's, but they're out there. Also a very small prop selection it seems.

Iflight, Recon, Crocodile, and AOS seem to be the big guys. Any others?

Probably should post this in Long Range, but...oh well 'Smile

Thanks!

What are you trying to do? How 7" will help?

7" **can** carry ALOT. Like deliver 2L coke to yourpal in prison. Average cruising speedd is faster. You can already get 20-30min on 4", so not sure how far you need to go.

In studying for my test, and I'm sure you are also aware, it is technically illegal to fly by prisons lol

It's perhaps more for the holy $#&@ factor. I remember how big my Roma L4 was compared to my Tinyhawk 2. Smile

I would probably build instead of buy it, almost like JB's "perfect freestyle build". There again, go big or go home, I would overbuilt the crap out of it. It would seem less expensive if I pieced it together. I'd probably check out Inav, and I see people using Lidar and optical sensors?!

I really like watching FalconRqd, his mountain/river/waterfall surfing videos are absolutely amazing .
Sadly, not much for mountains in Wisconsin, BUT I do live by a river with a wooded island with trails. There is a dam upstream now that I think about it. Maybe the eagles would be less likely to attack a 7 vs a 5? Hmm?

Carbon fiber/titanium alloy TIG welded tubular frame, 200 amp ESC, F12 FC, some 40xx motors, with infrared vision and accident avoidance? 12S?! AUW 600 grams?

Ok, or not lol

When my 7inch Xing2806.5 is too tame annd boring,

I fly the iflight 10inch frame, BH Avenger2 2812 spinning HQ 9050*3.

I made a whole thread about it.. if you want "bigger" go for it. Build a 10" quad.

Hi Jschubz:
I built my first 7” last summer by scratch. It is impressive and sounds cool and very loud with biblades. You can hear it half mi away easily. One big thing I didn’t think of is the battery cost. They are way more expensive than a 5” would need and they won’t fit on any of my other quads. If you want good flight times your looking at well over hundred each battery. With 2810’s and 6s 1500mah battery I get about 6-7 flight times on a good day. That drops to 4-5 with moderately aggressive flying. I guess you could get more with less powerful motors but that wasn’t why I built mine. I think you could get the same performance and flight times with a really good 5”. My 5” flies just fine with a regular hero 8 and tpu holder. The 7” is faster than my 5” but not by much. It’s cool to build a big one but I won’t build another. I still haven’t forked out $600 for the four batteries I want and need for maybe an hr of flight time.
On the other note, cool to see someone from WI on here. Spent my first 25 years on that frozen piece of land!

There’s a Camera Butter 5”,7/8” frame with Deadcat or X configuration by flipping over arms.
It’s a light weight freestyle or cinematic frame.I have two and it’s a good simple strong frame.
There’s more 5” frames to choose from than any other sizes.
I suggest getting a 5” first before going to 7”.
A 5” with 2207-2306 on 4-6S is not too small but not big and will be more durable than any other sizes most of the time.
There’s more parts for 5” than any other size quads.
