How loud is a 5 inch quad?
#1
Tried to find youtube videos about how noisy they are but can't seem to find anything..

Almost seem like mini flying lawn mowers haha..

A new build with new props and good tune, they are not too loud. They get louder as they get a little beat up. My guess would be in the 80ish dB.

If you're looking to be dicreet then a 5" quad is probably the wrong choice Big Grin

Yes, they are generally quite loud, especially when you give it some throttle. I can easily hear mine when it's 150m away.

At full throttle it sounds like 1000 daemons screeching from the underworld. One motor can be loud enough to cause temporary ear damage in close proximity fairly quickly. I know this from doing static thrust tests in my lab. I'd say over 100 db easily.

Well my itty bitty beater75 is sooo quiet that when people are around they don't really notice it - until it flies right by :p I will say although perfect for getting in stick time, wind definitely takes the life out of it. One day I'd love to build my own beefy mini quad Big Grin

I just worry it'll be so loud that I won't be able to fly as much.

I have flown low pitch bi-blade props and had it quiet enough to not attract attention. I usually fly Butter-Cutters and they are hella loud on hard throttle punches. A lot depends on your props and how you fly it.

I was doing some medium range testing of my 5" a week ago and at 500 meters I could still hear it (granted, I was in a quiet valley). It was not "loud", just a background sound that I knew the identity of. When I fly between 7 and 9 amps drawn (pretty relaxed) on my rig with Butter Cutters, it is far from obnoxious. At 200 meters, most would likely not notice it.
SoCal Kaity :D
OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)

in theory bi-blades should be loud and 4blade less. azure has some two-blade 5050 props i have tried, they are more silent than a triblade. i think some settings ar a lot over 100db - when noisy 5“ throw up; the world around feel silent, the loudest sportcars and chainsaws are silent in comparison. and because its in the air and sometimes no trees are around the noise can get very well fareaway- a high kv biblade will be able to hear for 1km or more, depends on also outside and spot conditions

it depends on the prop, rpms and force the motors provide

+1 on what Kaity said, props can make a huge difference.

+2 on the pitch of the rotors.

Both of my 6" quads (running V1s 6x4x3 or 6x3x3) are significantly quieter than any of my 3", 4" or 5" - 5" quads. 5" and below always seems loud whatever props, though the S3 props are the least noisiest I use.

is even describing what i have with my nazgul v2 4s... everything on my drone is still standard so no modifications.
I cannot stand in ~15m range to the drone, as soon as i give a little throtle it gets unbarable lound.
As a result i did not fly jet because i would love to still have hearig.
Looking though the internet and on youtube, there is no real noise issue or videos of people not beeing able to stand by there drone.

Is there something that can clearly cause this noise issue ?

A 5" freestyle quad is heard from a long distance away(few hundred meters). They are heavy, and require a lot of thrust to lift.

If you want quiet, I would recommend a lighter quad (250g or less), on 3" / 3.5" / 4" props.

The lighter the quad, the less air you need to move, the quieter it is. I have a 60g 3" Crux3 that is barely hearable past 10m. And a 140g digital 3" that is silent past about 50m or so. A 250g 3.5" is a bit louder than that. And a 630g 5" that is hearable from 200m.

The thing is, here is apparently the same drone in this video:

he can sit there and the drone has a ok volume. Mine has a suuuper high pitched screach that guy would bleed from his ears xD
Thasts what confuses me.

Arw you testing inside, it will sound louder. Could one of your props be bent, you'll get excessive noise there if bent just right. My buddy had a prop tweaked just right that fooled both of us into thinking he had a bad motor.

Otherwise yeah, you punch out it's going to be stupid scary loud. Ethix Peanut butter and jelly props are fairly quite on the Nazgul but only when slow cruising.
