It would be great if the title of this post included a date to let people know that the list is from October 2019. Any FPV list or recommendation from more than about 12-months ago isn't worth much and this list is from 2.5 years ago.

Once you open the thread you can see the date that it was posted.

One of the awesome things about forum threads is that they can evolve over time- in other words, you’re welcome to post your own experience and recommendations, because yes, quadcopters evolve month to month and year to year.

Do you have more current recommendations?

overall there didnt change alot, the peak for 65mm hype is over, manufacturers doesnt improve the market by new props...
there came the 1s 3inch builds like the happymodel crux as example, now the market comes back to common 3s 3inch quads, new size 3,5" starts to get support by the market.

Agree about the peak and hype being over for TP. I built so many 2.5 -3" Toothpicks at one stage I eventually grew to dislike them. I went from enjoying their lightness to loathing them over time. Lol.  The only one I still fly is the Geprc Phantom frame build with bigger motors ( un Toothpicks like ) as it has more mass to throw around.  I did move back to traditional 3" and also enjoy 3.5 -4" much more.  Nothing wrong with them, it's me changing.

For the light small build,  I like open frame 1.6-2".   Trend goes in circles.  Big Grin

Im a funny guy.
Ive been progressively building smaller and smaller.

First 5" freestyle.
Second, big quads.. 15", 9", couple 7".
Third, 4" toothpicks.. and then 5" ultralights
Fourth, three TP3
Finally a couple 2.5" with 1302 and 1203.

I started small; 65mm frame {31mm props} brushed motor tiny whoops.
Moved to 2.5 inch open prop quads and one 3 inch.
Moved up to 4 inch and sub-250 gram 5 inch.
Now working on a 7 inch...probably my one and only over-250 gram quad.
After this I am moving back to smaller quads since I want to stay in the
sub-250 gram category. Size is less important as long as the AUW is sub-250.

Most of the time, I fly high altitudes and like a 4 inch or maybe lite 5 inch
for those easy cruising flights. I like the scenery and there is nothing to hit
up there.

When I want to play around, my favorite size is 2.5 inch. I LOVE my GEPRC Phantom
and the Phantom-i "clone" build. These are the ones that I "play" around with ACRO
stunts, rolls, flips, and just goofing around. They fit that niche for me. A 3 inch is
OK, but I like how the 2.5 inch quads handle.

I also still fly tiny whoops inside the house; both brushed and brushless.
Yeah, some of these are just "toys", but fun none the less.

Good afternoon.
I have several 69.5g GNB 4S 850mah xt30 batteries (I fly Crux35 and FoxWhoop25). I have Happymodel 1404 3500kv motors and 2.5" propellers.
I want to build a Toothpick 2.5" with analog video with total weight less than 150g including battery. Accordingly Toothpick 2.5" should weigh no more than 80 grams.
Do you have any frame recommendations?

I haven’t tried it myself, but the 2.5” lite version of the Pickle toothpick is something I’ve been eyeing for a while.

6.5g for the carbon fiber, plus the weight of a canopy. Should be able to make it pretty damn light. It’s got 9x9 motor mounting, so those motors would fit. Those 1404 motors might be significantly larger motors than you’d need though- this thing would be happy with just some 1105’s or 1106 I think.

BetaFPV Twiglet 2.5" if you can find somewhere selling them. 5.3g carbon fibre frame, 1.5mm thick. With those 1404 it will probably be a crazy quad to fly.

I notice your profile says you live in Russia. Your best bet for getting them (if that's what you decided on) is probably to order them direct from BetaFPV's site in China. I think China may still deliver to Russia, but i would confirm that with them before you place the order. You might have issue ordering from most places in Europe and the US, given the current state of things.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
Twiglet 2.5" is available for order on Aliexpress, this is the best option for me.
Yes, I want to make a "Power Toothpick" with 1404 motors and 2.5" props :-)
Our laws have changed. Previously, we were required to register drones weighing more than 250 grams. We are now required to register drones over 150 grams. Laws in Russia have become tougher.
