XM+ Noob Question
#1
I just got a new XM+, and am having the classic trouble binding it unfortunately Sad It seems like my QX7 doesn't show the signal strength bars when I power it up after binding. Here's what the LEDS show:
tx bind mode + rx bind mode = red light flashing; green light solid
tx normal + rx normal = red light off; green light solid
tx off + rx on = red light solid; green light off

Basically, the LEDS show that I am connected but I have no SBUS out or control. Have updated XM+ and QX7 to latest firmware on Frsky's website to be extra safe. Any help would greatly appreciated!

sounds like you are bound. how are you wiring to FC? what FC? dump file.

XM+ doesn't have telemetry so no signal bars on the TX however latest firmwares can get you RSSI value on your flight controller.

I haven't wired anything to the FC yet; just trying to get it bound and shown that it is connected by the Taranis.

Oh OK, so the green light means that I'm bound, but the telemetry doesn't show up like I'm used to in the R-XSR?

No, nothing in that regard!
All you get is that RSSI that if I remember right is transmitted to the FC through channel 16 (AUX12 ??).

Here it is Oscar's insights:

The XM+ is a receiver which means it only receives data. It never transmits anything back to the transmitter, not even telemetry data.

The R-XSR is a transceiver which means it can transmit and receive data. This is why it can send telemetry data back to the transmitter.

You therefore won't get any telemetry data on your transmitter if you use an XM+, not LiPo voltage, not RSSI, nothing. If you want that data on your transmitter you will need to use an R-XSR instead.

As brnmd mentioned, you can get the RSSI data sent from the XM+ directly to your FC only for use in your OSD, but only if you have the right firmware flashed to the XM+. One of the firmwares doesn't output RSSI at all, one outputs RSSI on channel 8, and another outputs RSSI on channel 16. You need to choose what you want and flash the required firmware accordingly.

Thanks so much for the advice! Does this mean that the Range check in the Taranis menu will not work because it shows the RSSI? I tried the range check, and the RSSI keeps outputting a value of 0 while the green LED is solid.

You can do a range test. Leave the radio stationary and take the XM+ out until the green light turns off.

As Snow already mentioned, you will not get RSSI on your radio.
