Which motor for toothpick
#1
Hi guys,

I would like to ask you a suggestion for a set of motors to be used for a 2.5 inch toothpick built on a GEPRC Phantom frame.

I was considering T-motors F15, RcinPower 1204, GEPRC GR1107, GR1204, GR1105... but tables are quite confusing!  Huh

It's an analog quad with a weight between 135g and 160g AUW.

Batteries are 4S (possibly optimized for 4S 450mah because I already own a set of four).

Thank you in advance.

4s on a 2.5” toothpick… I just put a 3s on my tinyhawk freestyle (300mh).. seem a little “heavy”, I normally fly it on 2s (650).. and it flies great..
It has the stock motors.. I LOVE my twigxl 3” on 4s.. it’s fast and nimble..

It's an analog conversion of a Phantom HD (I moved the Caddx Vista kit on another quad). In the original version with 4S 450mah and GR1105 5000KV worked great! I also tried it with 3S 600mah but it was too weak, that's why I wanna focus on 4s.

One thing to consider is that you are removing the Vista unit which I believe is over thirty grams. The analog VTX should be much less weight which may make 3S a viable solution, especially if you change out the motors. It looks like the GR1105 6000kv version is for 2-3S for a 2.5".

The slightly higher kv should give you more punch on 3S.

I run my Phantom HD as a 3s 550mah with the GR 1105 5000kv SpeedX motors.

I flipped them upside down to run the quad as a 3" pusher. (much more authority in the air as a 3" with the extra 42% disc area, especially with the weight of the Vista)

The motors handle 2.5" and 3" perfectly on 3s. Although mine will definitely be staying as a 3", I think it handles the weight a lot better.

I have the original analogue GEPRC Phantom which runs on 1103 8000KV motors and although I haven't flown it for a while (over a year), it flew reasonably well on 2S 450mAh LiPos. I intend to try some 3S 550mAh LiPos on it for a bit more power when some come into stock locally, although I'm unsure if the extra weight of those will have a detrimental effect on the handling or flight time with the stock 2.5mm props. I guess there is only one way to find out.

The article below is also probably worth a read...

toothpick is the name of kababs 2,5" frame, he suggest 1103 8000kv on 2s 450mah. its lightweight and has special ultralight micro characteristics.
i would suggest the same, i fly my 1103 8000kv also on 300mah 3s batteries. the best quadweight is 50g, about 80g uaw.
this kind of ultralight micro would be what alot call: toothpick

your named uaw would be way to heavy for my taste. 2,5" on big motors you mention about is not a gently quad about handling. as example 1204 on 2,5" s for scaring and blame 5inchers in the parkhouse... it accrelate awesome...
are you sure you like a beast befor a gently and powerfull quad?
the gently version of your mentioned motors would be on 3inch.

1103-1104 on 2,5inch and 2-3s is still very powerfull,

the babytooth is the name of the 3inch frame from kabab, its thought as 3inch 1s platform

Got the point guys, thanks!!

All of you are suggesting to go for 3S with higher KV motors.

My preference for 4S is due to the fact that I own a set of 4 batteries 450mah which I would like to save from the shelf and also because on previous quad with GR1105 worked great.

The weight of the quad increased because I mounted a Vifly Finder V2 which I will remove soon because, even if the weight may be handled, the COG is no more centered. I will check the weight without that and then I will make some considerations.

1105 or 1303 is very efficiency, 1204-1206 wil make it more powerfull.

i like t-motor, but their first micro motors like the f15 has some faults...the bell doesnt hold enough on the shaft. i would suggest to choose another 1105, if you go for that size
