But there are some vtx or antenna saying RP SMA female or male and SMA female or male, those must match for it to work right?

Male and female stuff, you know, pointy thing, hole... A bit awkward if we think about it. You always have to match the hole with the pointy thing to have connection, but you have also to check the one that screws and the one that gets screwed... Hummm... I'm not trolling, this can be hard to explain... Check some images on google, you will get it. Just be careful with the keywords you use.

Hi, the article in Oscar's page is great, this also helped me:

-External threads = female
-Internal threads = male

With that in mind, in a female you expect a hole and in male you expect pin. If it matches then SMA. If it is the opposite then RP-SMA

VTX is always female. The antenna is always male.
The big difference between the SMA and RP-SMA, is the center pin. SMA is the standard coaxial connection you see on older TV for over the air antenna. Or pretty much any audio/video coaxial connection.

Originally, from what I reading, RP-SMA was invented as a security connector for the cable company. It was not easy to find RP-SMA connector back in the days.
