First use a multimeter to check for any short circuits between the LiPo + and - pads, and do the same for the 5V rail (check for continuity between a 5V pad and GND). Then power up using a smokestopper.

Thanks Legend! have done these checks and no continuity. smokestopper arrives tomorrow  Thumbs Up

Finally powered "Falkor" up and now am beginning to program.

First MAJOR hurdle was getting the r9mm-ota to connect to the r9m-lite pro transmitter! but after updating everything it finally binds! NOW! im stuck, I dont see any "stick movement" in Betaflight and I can imagine this is because i dont have the settings correct in ports and configuration?

firmware is set up as follows:
R9M Lite pro- FW-R9MLitePro-ACCESS_v1.3.0 (R9M_Litepro_FLEX.frk)
R9MM-OTA - FW-R9MINI-R9MM-OTA_v1.3.1 (R9MINI_OTA_FLEX.frsk)

Wiring from R9mm-ota to FC is as follows:
5v to 5V (shared with GPS)
G to G
Inverted S.Port to TX2 (smart port on F4 MATEKF405 as advised in tyro129 manual)

here are a few snap shots from Betaflight 4.1.1 of where im stuck! Huh

This doesnt look right to me? what should these be?

Should this be on smart port?

Any help would be much appriciated hoping to get this in the air by Saturday  Poop

You've wired your receiver for FPORT communication, so when you bind to the R9MM-OTA receiver make sure you select/tick the FPORT option on your transmitter.

You also need to run the following CLI commands...

Code:
feature -RX_PPM
feature -RX_PARALLEL_PWM
feature SERIAL_RX
feature TELEMETRY
serial 1 64 115200 57600 0 115200
set serialrx_provider = FPORT
set serialrx_halfduplex = ON
set serialrx_inverted = OFF
save

Hey SnowLeopardFPV,  THANKS Legend!

can you tell me how to set the f.port on the transmitter? is this done in Telemetry section? discover new sensors?
Cheers!

Something also came to mind while reading other threads,

i have access am i correct in saying that the below is wrong ?
firmware is set up as follows:
R9M Lite pro- FW-R9MLitePro-ACCESS_v1.3.0 (R9M_Litepro_FLEX.frk)
R9MM-OTA - FW-R9MINI-R9MM-OTA_v1.3.1 (R9MINI_OTA_FLEX.frsk)

shouldnt the Access file for the R9M Lite pro be .frsk ?

That's great news. I didn't see your other posts in time because I'm on the other side of the world so I was busy getting some ZZZZZ's Big Grin

All good you gave me the right info to find what i was looking for on the interwebzz!

very grateful! thanks !

Maiden flight was good didnt end up setting up DVR correctly and when ever id fly id hit the record button on the caddx turning the recording off LOL!

otherwise, my report:
Cant arm properly in stability or horizon mode , air mode arms every-time.
Receiver antenna needs a new home, its getting destroyed by the back prop's - the ground part of the T antenna does that need to sit vertical? also are there any non "t" antenna options to swap this stiff T out with?
seems to sit at an angle - like it falls to the right a bit so it isn't level at all - in horizon and stability mode ? and oscillates like crazy when low throttle.
ran 3 packs, 2 5s 1250 batteries (BONIKA) 1 4s 1500(INFINITY). Bought a Rebel 2700 for down the line!!
I was able to get some blackbox recorded.
Found out flying in acro/air, line of sight, is FREAKING HARD! crashed and lost a prop and battery strap... the joys!
VTX cuts out about 100meters away pretty badly, this was on an open field. gonna mess with the output settings Smile

other than that WAS AMAZING so quiet and love that i built it! so stoked!

-cheers

I was wondering about that antenna. Is there a reason you want it in that orientation? Might I suggest getting a mount like this one. its adjustable and fits right on your standoff so you can keep it out of the way of props.

You can buy them from any 3d printed service. I get mine from Brain3D. Excellent quality and fast delivery.

The only reason i went with my set up was mc-giver engineering an want to get it in the air! Smile so stoked that i ordered a back up receiver! and will look into getting this, im not too happy with my receiver placement at the moment heres a shot if it and the broken antenna attached to the VTX antenna with some zip ties  Whistling
couldnt not fly this morning !   [Image: u3AHzVQl.jpg]

Hey There Everyone,

Its been a rollercoaster of a few weeks.

On my second flight the day after my last post (30/08/2020.) I take the drone out, fly it once and it crashes, not bad but gets some dirt in Motor#2
so i clean it and go to fly again. i have a hard time arming it in anything other than acro/air mode. so i go to arm and take off and i hear POOF.
goggles go black and i take them off to see a MASSIVE cloud floating off the drone.  Sad

i was ready to sell everything and quit. Im not experienced in electronics, my knowledge is from you all and youtube channels and alot of figuring this out as i  go, getting as close to (virtual)flying as possible! Well ive decided this was just a bump along that road!

so i went back to the drawing board, didnt bother fixing anything or diagnosing anything past what i found ( esc was shorted at motor # 3  motor #3 was all burnt up)

I Ordered The Following:
BROTHERHOBBY AVENGER 2507 V2 1750kv Motors
RUSH TANK II  VTX
MAMBA F405 MK2  FC

Im Reusing:
R9MM-OTA
CADDX TARSIER
TYRO129 FRAME

So after building, Powering it up, and binding this is what ive found of issue.

The Buzzer seems to act weird, when i power up the drone, it turns on to power off mode (it starts buzzing after a minute)

Before i go into beta flight, i want to make sure my wiring is correct.

Also tell me what you think of my R9mm antenna mount?

Take a look below, as per usual any places for learning here? anything i should change?

***CORRECTION: the 5v and GND are actually wired to the pads closest to the TX1 which is connected to Inverted S.port.

Cheers!

Hi Musiquealchemy,

First, hang in there and don't give up.  You have quite a build there.  Smile

I have been trying to follow... but my eyes aren't good enough to clearly see the detail in some of the photos;  sometimes I get confused Confused   But, I will try to keep up  Wink

The Mamba appears to have good documentation; especially the wiring diagram.

Looks like your "new" parts list should work; rebuild and go.  Wink

One of the things that I like about this hobby is that a quad can always be rebuilt or upgraded (assuming you don't lose it altogether).  I have learned to test things as I go. When I get a new FC, the first thing that I do is plug it into Betaflight Configurator, back it up, perform the CLI DUMP, check out what it has to offer, and do some basic configuration. Next, wire up the Rx receiver and bind it to the transmitter and check it with Betaflight. ((if you have separate ESC, do that next)) Then, I connect and test the motors.{that's right, nothing is mounted to the frame, yet} If everything goes ok, I know it will at least fly (these parts could be mounted to a frame and tested LOS). If not, then I don't have that much to debug. Finally, I install the video system and GPS.

I have, and continue to, watch build videos (a lot). In my opinion, Drone Mesh has some of the best build videos, period; very clean, very clear, easy to follow, and easy to understand {for me anyway}. TStroFPV has just posted a thread for a 4 inch micro long range build by whiffles ; this is a very good video for those interested in the 4 inch category.

High Five

Hey iFly4rotors!

Great advice, thanks for the insight!

I have taken everything apart and just have the ESC, FC and Receiver plugged in (ive swapped over to the r9mx which i finally have bound)

I am hooked up to betaflight to get the receiver sorted, transmitter configured and a LOS flight when possible. But, I have ran into an issue.

see photos below whats connected to what, I have no stick input showing up under the receiver tab on betaflight.

for the receiver:
FC TX1---to---Inverted S.Port
FC 5v-----to---Receiver 5v
FC Gnd---to---Receiver Gnd

[Image: F4jNiAHl.jpg][Image: gBt6uvpl.jpg]

as per usual any help would be amazing!
