Tyro129 - first build
#1
Hi Everyone,

Very new to FPV and am on to my first build.

I started with an eachine trashcan that i got brave with and started modifying ( no longer works! waiting on a new FC), a Geprc Cinepro that i re installed the same size screws after removing the prop protection.... waiting on new motors (facepalm).

and now i am building my first 7 inch Quad that id like to eventually fly long range. ive decided to go with this Tyro to practice: its cheap and is alot of fun to put together.

These are the specs of what i want to be able to fly... i say that because i have questions around a few things and may have to make changes.
-Everything the standard Tyro129 comes with (except the Camera)
- id like to fly with a Caddx Tarsier as you will see in the photos (ive plugged it in the same socket the original camera plugs into on the FC, ive chopped off the green and black wire and soldered the red, yellow, black together from the tarsier plug) which brings me to my first question... is this ok? to just plug it into the same slot on the FC as the original caddx turboF2 plug?
- im waiting on an
FrSky R9 MM-OTA ACCESS 16CH 900MHz Long Range RC Mini Receiver.
- i powered the ESC and FC up already and all seems ok.

Id like to get some advice on the build, please see photos below and let me know where ive gone wrong. id like this bird to fly for a while so any thing that can help would be super awesome. I thank you in advance. Cheers!

The general photos, the quad look fine. But there is no way to give you advice on your wiring.

Thanks Voodoo614!
here are some shots after dissecting it again Smile upgraded the spacer that the tarsier was on added foil tape and raised the tarsier chip to create a heat sink for it to replace the original from caddx, wanted to make this spacer out of stainless steel but that was becoming a nightmare!

There is a shot of each connection, For more context ive labelled the picture showing the receiver connection. Im guessing the receiver i purchased will need to be connected via S Bus? see the photo labelled a. in section
a1. this is the connection to the FC it runs down the back and under the frame you can see this in section a3.  a2. is where i plan to mount the receiver however am not sure where to mount antenna. Ive seen people mount the R9 antenna on an arm? i was planning on having it under the camera? any help here would be awesome!

So everything looks like it is properly wired up. I have some advice. Use a digital multimeter to test for short. And use a smoke stopper before you power up if you have not already. When I build, I usually test one component at a time. Example, I usually get my ESCs and motors hook up first. After I wire these, I plug into BF configurator and spin the motors to make sure everything works. Then wire up the next component and test that.

The last board on your stack (vtx) looks very close to the top plate. If it is very close, I like to put electric tape underneath the plate to prevent the board from touching. Carbon fiber is conductive and might cause a short.

As for the receiver R9MM, most people like to run F. Port. This is wired to a free UART TX. F. Port gives you both stick control and telemetry on one wire. There are a few thread here regarding how to wire it up. If you just want stick control and no telemetry, then you can wired to the SBUS port as you mentioned. We can discuss what you want and how to do it when you get your receiver.

As for the mounting of the antenna. I assume you will have the T antenna and not the wired antenna. So mounting the active portion perpendicular to the arm is very popular. I personally usually make custom mount for these antenna. Every build is different.

[Image: attachmentNew.php?attachmentid=13903457]I'm running the R9mm and I mounted my rx antenna vertical
I found running it horizontally I got massive rssi and connection loss due to the nulls.

That mount is just a source one front mount printed from thingivers.

You will want to mount the gps on the top plate so you can get a signal and it's advisable to get a good self powered buzzer.
Also ditch the stock vtx antenna. It's garbage!

I'd consider zip typing that gps down, if you like it....

I lost one due to inadequate tiedown. thought double sided tape would be enough....one crash later it was gone.

I ended up designing and printing out a vtx/gps holder for my source one v3. it survived the crash, and the gps stayed in (it was still ziptied)

The gps is held down by 3m velcro.
Managed not to lose it yet and I've had a couple of right clangers lol.
Although a valid point and one I will take on board ?

@voodoo614 Thank you for your advice. ive ordered the VIFLY short saver will be waiting for that before i power up anything past the FC as i did power that and the ESC up during the build... got lucky with no smoke stopper. Ive checked continuity with a digital meter and it is all good.

Ive taken the advice on the GPS, will this be ok? see photos it has heat shrink around it one clear and one green. its tied down to top plate and double sided tape.
Ive also added a double sided 3m pad between the vtx and tarsier plate mount i made. this should be ok to keep from shorting or should i still wrap the vtx in electrical tape?

@Loibo83 thanks for the advice on the antenna- its a pity to have it vertical, because it looks so good in the front or back, horizontally, but will be going vertically!  with the video antenna will this one suffice? ive also got a 125mm ordered.

For your Tarsier you need to connect the black GND wire to the AGnd pad on the FC. Your diagram appears to show GND going to the S6 pad on the FC which is incorrect.

For the R9MM you need to connect the SBUS_OUT pad to the SBUS pad on the FC (assuming you are running SBUS/S.Port firmware on the R9MM). Your current diagram shows the S.Port/F.Port pad wired to the SBUS pad which is incorrect.

Legend  Thumbs Up thanks!

*Ah Yes the diagram is wrong sorry the R9 is plugged into the FC so if you look at the photo above with all the connectors, i plugged it into the RC/5V/GND on the bottom right hand corner. still wrong though? should i change the connection on the receiver?

Hey Everyone, i looked back at previous advice and re wired the FC as per above,  Thank you!

I found, in the TYRO129 manual, that the TX2 is S.port/F.port. wired receiver to that and the 3.3v and GND on the back. (should this be on the 4.3v?)
Ive rewired the Tarsier and soldered it to the recommended spots, Thanks. see re adjusted diagram and photos below [Image: LHz8iJ4l.jpg][Image: 6qrYu2ul.jpg][Image: 874CQOcl.jpg][Image: g5aRL6pl.jpg]

Smoke stopper is arriving Monday, getting STOKED!

The R9MM needs 5V, so wire it to the 5V pad. The 3.3V pad is for a Spektrum receiver.

Done, ive soldered up the R9mm to the beeper 5v.

and now... ready to be plugged in?!
