Turning tiny whoop into hd whoop with split camera?
#1
Hi guys.

I have a beta65s and am in the process of building a 75mm brushless tiny whoop.
I've been toying with the idea of replacing the FPV camera with a split camera for HD recording like the Runcam split 3 nano, split 4 4K, or the Caddx Loris.

Has anyone had success in doing this? Is the increased weight prohibitive?

Thanks!

every additional weight on this small motors and propsizes does affect to the performence, i wont try that personaly.
the most tiny quad, can handle additional weight seems to fly still nice i know is the; diatone hey tina whoop

Runcam Split 3 lite 1080P as used in the Mobula 6HD is probably the lightest for your 75mm whoop HD build.

Thanks for the answers.
@hugnosed_bat - Do you think the 2S version of Hey Tina would be ok with it?
@jasperfpv - Thanks. I'll give it a shot!

i would choose 8500kv 2-3s version, get the betaflight version as there was problems on the software of flightone with turtle mode

Did you see that BetaFPV put their HD Nano cam on a 1S Meteor 65?

I am a total noob, learning with the BetaFPV Meteor75 “Lite” which is a 1S quad that takes the BT2.0 450mAh Battery.

Indeed, I was contemplating trying to build a 1S Meteor 75 HD, but it gets complicated. The 1S FC of the Meteor 65 HD does not list the 1102 motors of the Meteor75 Lite. The Meteor75 HD is a 2S (Betaflight) quad.

What keeps me awake at night is wanting:
- adjustable angle
- use same batteries I already have
and knowing that building from components successfully is not likely at my stage in learning.

Hey, did you progress somehow with transforming your Meteor 75 Lite in to HD drone? Smile

Looks like you have exactly the same kit like I just ordered (BetaFPV Whoop Racing Advanced Kit 2). It should be in my hands in few days. I was amazed by Mobula 6 HD digital video recorder quality - it's very good for this drone size. They put there RunCam Split 3 Lite https://shop.runcam.com/runcam-split-3-m...it-3-nano/ (remember to pick RunCam Split 3 Lite from model list). I was wondering if it is possible to put the same camera into Meteor 75 Lite.

RunCam Split 3 15g
RunCam Split 3 Nano/Lite 10g

Ofcourse you are not adding 10g, because replacing a 1+g camera. Should be ok.. but it will feel slow.

General consensus on the webs is that below 3inch, sharp dropoff in what you can carry...

Low quality and terrible customer service don't buy it..

I sincerely regret that I bought this from them. First of all I bought drone and two batteries for it. One battery arrived dead. Drone stopped working during first attempt to fly it. But when I contact them to change it (I understand that it complicated electronics and things happened). They propose me to fix it by myself even if it under 30 days warranty. Do not buy from them. There is plenty other drone makers around.

I've tried putting together a 65mm HD Whoop as well. I used the the caddx baby turtle (9 grams). The weight went up from 21grams to 29grams. Be prepared to cut flight times in half if you add this much weight to a 65mm whoop. I think I could get better performance on 2s (both speed and flight time), so I might try that later.

Maybe, on a 75mm frame with slightly larger motors and on 2s you might be able to get decent flight performance.

I am working on building a 2s 65mm whoop using the Runcam 4K Nano Whoop camera. It uses the following components.

BetaFPV Beta65 Pro 2 / Beta65X 2S Whoop Frame - 3.6g
BetaFPV F4 V2 AIO 2S Brushless Whoop FlightController - 4.5g
BetaFPV 0802-12000KV Motors - 1.9g ea
Frsky R-XSR Reciever - 1.5g
TBS Unify Pro32 Nano 500mW VTX - 1g
RunCam Split 4 Nano Whoop 4K Camera/DVR - 10.2g
HappyModel Angle Adjustable Whoop Canopy V2 for Mobula7 - 2g (this may change)
Gemfan 1220-4 31mm 4-Blade Whoop Propeller - 0.31g ea

Total 31.64 grams w/o battery

If it turns out to be to heavy to fly, I will move the components to a 75mm frame.

I built a 85mm whoop with the Runcam Split 4K rig and it flys pretty well with over 5 minutes of flight time and doesn't seem very loud.
These are the components for it.

85mm CineCan Whoop Frame
BetaFPV F4 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 12A
HappyModel 1103 KV6000 Motors
HQ 2x2.5x3 Tri-Blade 2" Props
RunCam Split 4 Nano Whoop 4K
RunCam TX200 VTX
Lumenier AXII RHCP VTX Antenna
FRSky R-XSR Receiver

Here is a clip from the first flight. This is raw unprocessed footage recorded at 2.7K.

...

Nice!!! Over 5 minutes of flight time. Three questions:
1. What battery did you use? I have 450 mAh 1S batteries from Advanced Kit 2. I'm wondering if I could just join two of them (emulated 2S) and replace the battery plug to avoid buying another set of equipment and batteries.
2. Do you think (from your experience) in 75mm frame it will also fly well?
3. Did you get rid of Yello? Only this destroys overall experience Sad

I have an assortment of 2s and 3s batteries and wasn't sure which I used. I just now tried two different batteries.
First, Hyperion G7 2S 600mAh batt got 5-1/2 minutes flight time (battery over 1 year old).
Second, Tattu 3S 450mAh batt got just short of 7-1/2 minutes of flight time (battery brand new).
This is with cinematic type flying, not ripping it.

On 2S it is a little sluggish but good for cinematic flying. It was snappier on 3S and flew better overall.
I don't think joining two 1S batteries will work very well as I don't think it will get enough power with the smaller pins and wire. Running 2S with a XT30 connector was a little sluggish and using the smaller connector and wire would make that worse.

To fly it in a 75mm frame I think I would drop the motor size to lose about 4 grams or so of weight. If the 65mm version I am working on (listed above) dosen't work, I will be transferring it to a 75mm frame using the same components and it will be simulated 2S to start with. If that dosen't work, I will try normal 2S with an XT30 connector....

Using new HQ props, the jello seems to be very minimal.

Still I can't decide which camera with HD DVR is better for my new 75 mm build. So far I found only two nice cameras with DVR for tiny whoops:

BetaFPV Nano HD Camera (Meteor65 HD)
https://betafpv.com/products/betafpv-nano-hd-camera

RunCam Split 3 Lite (Mobula6 HD) <- LITE is important as they have 4 versions in this series
https://shop.runcam.com/runcam-split-3-m...it-3-nano/

BetaFPV seems to be simpler to build as you can buy FC (https://betafpv.com/products/f4-1s-aio-b...controller) with already soldered pins for the DVR board and there is very nice canopy available with hole for SD card but... I feel like RunCam Split 3 Lite (Mobula6 HD) gives better quality. After watching plenty of reviews I still cannot decide which camera with DVR to buy... Sad Probably due to the YouTube compression issues, different lightning conditions or frame blending on editing.

Could somebody post RAW video from one or both cameras?
