Ok so I did everything you said, formatted the sd card to exfat 32, copied across the new SD content, made sure radio firmware up to date, updated the boot loader and it seemed to work ok. But then, I flew it and again I got critical RSSI warning about 30 ft from me and it fell out of the sky. When I try and navigate through the tools page for crossfire it gets glitchy on the Taranis and I got that script syntax error again? Is there maybe a more updated lua script to be used with crossfire that I’m not getting or something?

The Crossfire LUA Script in the tools menu are the the latest version unless you overwrote it with something else by trying to merge contents of an older SD Card, but from previous discussion in this thread you won't (or at least shouldn't) have done that.

Are you only getting script errors on the Crossfiere LUA Script? What about the Betaflight LUA Script? Does that one work without any issues? If it's just the Crossfire LUA Script that is problematic then that coupled with poor range suggests a possible issue with connections to the Crossfire module in your X9D. Try re-seating it by unplugging and plugging it back in again, and if you're using the full size Crossfire module then check all the wiring that goes between the module and JR bay adapter, and re-plug the connectors that goes into the bottom of it.
