Stopping battery arcing when connecting LiPo xt60?
#1
Is there a way to stop arcing when plugging in LiPo?
The male pins and female pins turn black in time and the generic xt60 plugs can loose connection in flight.

You can get anti spark connectors but IMO it's not really worth it. It will take a long time for the XT60 connections to come loose or fail. The LiPo will probably die before that happens. My 2 year old LiPos still work absolutely fine and still have a tight connection even though the metal connectors have clearly oxidised over time due to the arcing.

I’m trying dielectric grease but also I stopped using generic xt60 plugs.
The generic don’t have alignment slots and can bend male prongs with x pattern cut into it.
My ChinaHobbyLine packs started making motors act up and once I cut off POS connectors they are now fine. The connection got so loose the plug came completely out on a bumpy landing but not hard enough to move LiPo.
I couldn’t figure out why drone flew great using Tattu packs but ChinaHobbyLine packs caused irratic motor performance and when it came unplugged it was obvious.
Amass plugs are made to tighter tolerances and worth the extra cost.
One 0.25 cent POS plug crashes a 500 drone.

All the XT60 connectors I use are AMASS branded ones. I just checked my Tattu LiPos and they also have AMASS connectors fitted. So I guess that is why I never had any issues, because all my kit is using a decent brand of connector. I've never suffered any loose fitting connector issues.

That arcing freaks me out every time. Also a big fan of the AMASS but more so for their "grip" clasps that also serve to cover the wires. Makes disconnecting much easier.

Plug it fast so it has no time to arc much Smile That or put a switch on quad xt60 pigtail. (Never saw anyone doing it, but should work with a little increase in weight)

Now that I know it’s the POS plugs causing erratic motor behavior I won’t be using them again.
Imagine not knowing it’s the plug and trying to track down problem.

Hi Maiden Flight,
I have thought about putting a switch on the battery lead Thinking  ...more for convience. I have looked around, but haven't found one that seems suitable for that purpose; they are either way to big or tiny and don't look like they would handle the current. If anyone finds a suitable switch, them  PLEASE  let me know.  Thanks Smile

I have two switched battery connector cables  that I use on the bench; one with JST 2.0 for 1s and one with XT30 for the larger batteries.

By the way, this set up is   FANTASTIC   for binding the receiver. You can use one hand to hold the button and the other to push the switch.
