Replacement FC/ESC for Tinyhawk Freestyle
#1
Really disappointed. After all the effort I put in rebuilding my Tinyhawk after an epic crash I find out that one of the motors is not spinning. Very sad Sad

The stock esc f/c is $90. Looked at the Crazybee which is a bit better at $80 which I do have one I could steal out of my trashcan but don't really want to do that. Did I mention I am really really sad.

Any good options you can think of?

All help is much appreciated.

It's an odd spacing on these and the frame is designed so a 20x20 doesnt fit. Toothpick 26x26 board might work but these are about the same price and those 1103 motors just don't need any more amps than the TH board supplies. But you will at least have a board for something later if it does work out.

I've been using mine for years though without failure, I don't think this is a common issue if you just replace with stock.

If this is the Tinyhawk 2 freestyle, you can get a whole new quad for $30 more...

If I was in this position, I would buy a new one and use the old one for spare parts (except the FC of course). I can't believe they want that much for the FC...

Just looked it up and the FC is $54.99.

I'm guessing this is not the above stated version or you are not in the US.

Yep AUD so halve it for USD

Pretty sure I shorted the usb cable when plugging it in whilst powered by the lipo. I would go the freestyle 2 fc as it has the better VTX but its $105 delivered. I dont want the vtx and RX Sad

I could get the Betafpv F4 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 12A V2 (BLHeli_S) to fit. It would be a dodgy fit but I could run 3s on it then Smile They are a better price at $67 delivered.

Sigh

Anyone used the Diatone Toothpick AIO?

It looks perfect. Even has the correct orientation. Probably have to make up a mounting plate. Bit more expensive than the Betafpv but it doesn't have the motor plugs which I am not a fan of.

Is that ghost? 900mhz will not like that antenna. Looks way to big to be a 5.8 dipole too.

Nah its the whip crossfire antenna that comes with the micro receiver.

I just covered it in heat shrink so it didn't get damaged

Just be cautious with the Minimortal T. I have one but have never fitted it to anything (yet). Trappy himself regularly makes fun of it by saying only to fit one to your quads if you want a failsafe. I have no idea on the range so it might be fine for the sort of distances you do with a micro, but I suggest to take it easy to start with until you understand its actual range capabilities.

Yeah I can't imagine it getting any decent range.

For me its more to be able to have the same receiver on every quad and to give a bit more reliability than the frsky.

I can only see this quad flying a few hundred metres around me.

Yes, I'm digging up old threads. UrbanJungle, What did you end up using, the Diatone? I am looking for an alternative also. Now i see a thread about the Darwin FPV board..hmm.

Is there a place that makes whoop to 16x16 adapter plates, or is that DIY?

I see you went with Crossfire, what did you use for a VTX? Is the stock 200mw worth reusing?

Thanks!

Alternative to Emax TH2F AIO?

Adapter plates are pretty easy to make. First, cut a plate from carbon fiber or flat plastic.  Then you simply drill holes in it. One set with a pattern that fits the frame, the other for the FC. Don't get fancy, just cut a square, drill all the holes, then trim it if you want to.

I cut up old bottles, especially the square ones like alcohol or peroxide bottles. You can use just about any flat material; even balsa wood if you wanted to.
