This is what I use https://www.phaserfpv.com.au/products/tr...1623474253 I went with the long version to get it as far away from the quads electrical interference as possible. The difference this antenna makes over my Foxeer lollipops is very noticable. • Posts: 78 Threads: 9 Likes Received: 9 in 7 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Jan 2020 Reputation: 0 (20-Feb-2020, 10:21 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: It's been proven that there is minuscule signal loss by using an adapter. It's not even worth worrying about TBH unless you are planning on doing extreme long range. A lot of quad builders opt for an MMCX to SMA pigtail adapter because it makes swapping out the antenna far easier than having to dig around inside the quad to remove the MMCX connector from the VTX each time. Plus from an aesthetics point of view it looks better IMO. Awesome, I will keep the adapter then because there are more SMA antennas out there too. • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 • Posts: 5,868 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,779 in 2,241 posts Likes Given: 7,635 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 I read KaityLynn's thread on the Helical antenna and bought one. Being stuck at home, I haven't tried it yet. The "Pepperbox" seems to also be a good choice for a directional. Anyone know how these two antennas compare? • Posts: 58 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 3 Joined: Apr 2020 Reputation: 0 18-Jan-2021, 03:48 PM (This post was last modified: 18-Jan-2021, 03:50 PM by chente.) hi all I also have the EV800D eachine googles. I was thinking to upgrade with: Realacc Triple Feed Patch-1 5.8GHz 9.4dB & the Foxeer Pagoda Pro 5.8GHz 2dBi DO you think is worth it? Would experience a real upgrade? Thanks for your comments. Regards Hi chente, Please post links to these antennas. I have never use the Realacc antennas so I can't say about this one. Not sure about the Foxeer without seeing the link. I have used an assortment of different antennas. Currently on my goggles, I am running the VAS SkyHammer for an omni and a TrueRC X-Air 5.8 Ghz {I don't think this one is available any longer}; here is the new version which I will be getting. So far, I have not found anything better than the TrueRC X-Air for a general purpose directional antenna; but I keep looking. I also have a 3-Turn and a 7-Turn Helical which are both highly directional. I use the 7 turn for linear flights...straight line out and straight line back and keep pointed toward the quad. I also use the 7 turn to help find lost quad. Hi Chente, Having checked out the links, I have never used either one; sorry • Posts: 1,490 Threads: 92 Likes Received: 574 in 468 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Nov 2020 Reputation: 27 Helical (very directional) antenna is really clever, and Good idea. Problem with broad angle patch on either Radio or Goggles is that you end up searching big area. One time hours.. until it turned out it was behind me on other side of creek. • Posts: 5,868 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,779 in 2,241 posts Likes Given: 7,635 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 (20-Jan-2021, 07:01 AM)romangpro Wrote: Helical (very directional) antenna is really clever, and Good idea. Hi Roman, Yeah, the 7 turn helical comes in handy when locating a downed quad...it is VERY directional; you can really tell the difference if you are pointed toward the quad or not. • Posts: 1 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 12 Joined: Apr 2024 Reputation: 0 (20-Feb-2020, 06:44 PM)Krohsis Wrote: You want an omni on the quad. Hi Koushik, Most of my quads have a VAS Minion Pro with an extension cable so that the head is higher above the battery. I standardized on this antenna after trying a bunch of others. The Minion Pro was the best performer so I pretty much use it all the time. Since the antenna lead is pretty short, I use a U.FL extension cable. Regardless of what anyone says about using an extension, this method has always worked for me and I get good reception. If I ever push it to the limit, I will address it at that time. For now, that is my standard set up on the quad. I am sure other antennas are just as good, but this one works for me. My analog goggles are diversity and have 2 receivers so I have 2 antenna on them. For all round daily use which is less than 2K, I have the TrueRC patch on one side and a VAS SkyHammer on the other. For longer distance and as a quad "hunter", I replace the patch with a 7 turn Helical. I couldn't find a link for the one that I have, but This One is pretty close. The 7 turn Helical that I have is VERY directional which makes it useful for finding a downed quad. You get signal when pointed towards the quad, but the signal degrades fast if you are not. So, you walk in the direction of the strongest signal. This is just one tool in your bag of tricks. Of course GPS coordinates are better and a buzzer works if you get close enough to the quad. Hi Pathfinder, Yeah, I could, but it was easier just to buy one. Maybe I am getting lazier as I get older. Ha, Ha. Later, iFly • |
