Rebuilding the 5"
#1
A while back while flying in wet weather, something shorted out on my 5".  The DYS F4 FC has major issues that software does not seem to be fixing.  I have been considering putting the 6" back together, but after some thought...moving the CL Racing F4S to the 5" frame and saving up for another F7 based board for the 6" feels like the way to go.

This one is taking longer than an hour and a half to build Wink Cannot wait to have it back up and running.  This is a consolidation of a bunch of stuff I already have around the nest.

This is about as far as the day has in it for this project.  Still raining outside, so not able to test it anyway.

The wires on three of the motors are too short, but that is easy to fix.

Have already tested the video system and it seems solid.  No shorts or errors in the ESC's, the FC is responding to the radio without issue, so all that is left is to solder the motors on and attach the top plate.

Curious as to how you have your power leads connected and how your FC is connected to your ESC as I have a Clracing F4S and a couple 4 in 1 ESCs that I might throw in a Xilo Phreak that I have laying around. Did you use the Joshua Bardwell method of the positive wire going into the FC, then from the positive ESC pad on the FC to the positive pad on the ESC, etc?
Dude, where's my quad?

The best way is lipo pigtail to FC. Then connect 2-3 ESC positive pads from FC to the 4in1 lipo pads. Or connect the power after the resistor shunt to the 4in1.

As for ground on 4in1, it can go to the lipo ground on FC.

I am flying singles, Spedix GS30's.  I wired the XT-60 pigtail directly to the FC.

I finished putting it together and just hover tested it.  I think it is pretty close to ripping up the yard Smile  I have to remember that the FC is tuned for the 6" still.

I cannot find my box of Cyclones, just used a few trash props I had lying around.  They sound awful, but worked fine for proofing the assembly.  I used the old RacerStar motors from the 6".

Wow...the rates for the 6" simply do not work well with this 5". It feels like the best approach might be to flash the FC to vanilla and start from scratch, rather than attempt to reign in the wild flight characteristics. Also, need to get better props on it...I just ripped (tried anyway) the yard and these ones are definitely too flexible.

Cool!  I learned something today Smile that will come in handy if I build with a 4in1!

I thought that in case of a 4in1 ESC LiPo would go straight into it and then power the FC via a BEC...
At least it's what I'm running on my Mamba stack.

The way that VooDoo is describing allows you to have the current meter functional.

It flies! Big Grin

Still needs tuning, but it seems to go okay.

Yes, and applies only to AIO FCs with vbat input.

Which is where I found my builds to be, AIO FC with single ESC's...they look aggressive like that!

A little more tuning...still not where I want it, bat this thing is way quick!  I forgot my love for this aircraft!!! Heart

I am still having a few issues with the AKK FX2 VTX.  It has a lot of breakup and no combination of antenna and pigtail seems to make any difference.  While flying the same lines as I do with The Japalura, the AKK definitely has more breakup than my Lumenier at the same power.  I think I might have to replace the AKK with something else...

Yes, the AKK is getting some pretty poor reviews. You really need to check out the Rush Tank!
