I assure you that once I'm flying, I'll stop asking questions Anyway, I've been trying to bind my R9MM OTA to the R9M 2019 for hours now, and I just can't do it. I haven't done any firmware changes or updates, they're both brand new out of the box yesterday. They are both the EU edition. (868mhz). The manual is absolutely useless too! Heres my problem: I turned off the internal RF and selected the external RF as R9M. I put the module into bind mode (ch1-8 tel on) and it does that beeping thing like usual. I power the receiver on whilst holding the bind button and it then displays a solid red LED and solid green LED, and they just don't bind. As I already said, I haven't changed the firmware at all for either the receiver or module. Though I did buy the OTA version of the receiver because I didn't want to be connecting it to my controller smart port for firmware updates. I've just seemed to have awful luck getting into this hobby, my first drone was faulty, and I received a tinyhawk freestyle without a vtx antenna! Hopefully this can be fixed and thanks in advance • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 The problem is, you have no idea if the R9MM-OTA receiver is on ACCESS, ACCST, EU-LBT, FLEX, SBUS/S.Port, or FPORT firmware. The same goes for the R9M module. There are too many combinations and a high possibility that both aren't on the same type. Any difference and they will be incompatible with each other. The only way to know is to re-flash both with the latest firmware versions of a known type, but that will also depend on what transmitter you're running. Are you still using a QX7S? • Posts: 66 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 4 in 3 posts Likes Given: 10 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 0 (15-Jan-2020, 08:20 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: The problem is, you have no idea if the R9MM-OTA receiver is on ACCESS, ACCST, EU-LBT, FLEX, SBUS/S.Port, or FPORT firmware. Yes I am still using a qx7s, but thank you I'll reflash both the receiver and module to the latest fport flex firmware and I'll come back to see if it's fixed it. • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 Make sure you flash ACCST firmware because ACCESS firmware isn't compatible with the QX7S. That also means you won't be able to do OTA firware updates because those only work using ACCESS, so you will be stuck with updating firmware the old manual way. You can blame FrSky for the complete dogs dinner they've created with multiple firmware and protocol types for the same hardware, some of which isn't even compatible with each other. Welcome to the R9 system minefield. Welcome to the R9 system minefield. Oh damn, I didn't know it wasn't compatible! Really starting to dislike frsky now, but thanks for warning me about that because I was just about to flash access • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 Yeah. Welcome to the R9 system minefield. Well, I've run into another problem. When trying to update the receiver, I get an error on my Taranis saying: "FW update error Not responding" The receiver is being powered when this is taking place from an external source, the bottom pin on the jr module bay thingy goes straight into the s.port/f.port pad. I've also tried different SD cards and different firmware, flashing to s.port and external module and still nothing!! • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 Your QX7S should have a 3-pin Smart Port connection next to the SD Card under the flap on the bottom (on the opposite side from the USB socket). You need to flash the receiver using that. • Posts: 66 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 4 in 3 posts Likes Given: 10 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 0 (15-Jan-2020, 10:41 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: Your QX7S should have a 3-pin Smart Port connection next to the SD Card under the flap on the bottom (on the opposite side from the USB socket). Tried that too, still saying the same thing :/ • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 Do you have the wiring order connected like below? The yellow wire needs to be connected to the S.PORT/F.PORT pad on the R9MM. • Posts: 66 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 4 in 3 posts Likes Given: 10 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 0 (15-Jan-2020, 11:10 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: Do you have the wiring order connected like below? Though the receiver is powered via external power which I assume doesn't matter aha • Posts: 21,326 Threads: 590 Likes Received: 9,001 in 6,662 posts Likes Given: 1,426 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 790 15-Jan-2020, 11:19 PM (This post was last modified: 15-Jan-2020, 11:19 PM by SnowLeopardFPV.) I would just wire all the connections to the transmitter - GND, 5V, and S.Port. • Posts: 66 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 4 in 3 posts Likes Given: 10 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 0 (15-Jan-2020, 11:19 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: The return path for the S.Port signal is the GND connection, so you at least need GND connected to the transmitter as well. One time a firmware refuses to flash. • |
