PC: i7, 16GB RAM, 4GB graphics, Windows 10. I have Liftoff, DRL Simulator, and Velocidrone. I have a QX7S and have created a new model (Sim) Int and Ext RF is off. Trainer Mode is set to Master/Jack. Radio powered on, plug in USB cable. TX askes USB Joystick or USB Storage. I select USB Joystick. Windows makes connection sound. Under Devices and Printers, FrSky Taranis Joystick shows up as "Unspecified", not a game controller icon. In Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus devices, it has FrSky Taranis Joystick.
None of the simulators recognize that I have a controller connected. Can anyone help? Am I missing a driver? A Windows setting? 7 hours in, and I am getting frustrated. I have read the forums, but none seem to have the same problem. YouTube was a bust as well.

What version of OpenTX do you have installed? To find that out, turn on your QX7S, long press the MENU button, and then keep pressing the PAGE button until you get to the page headed VERSION. The actual version will be on the line prefixed with "VERS:"
What version of the OTX Booloader do you have installed? To find that out, hold both the trim buttons that are under the sticks inwards and switch on your QX7S. The bootloader version number is on the top line.
If the bootloader and OpenTX versions don't match, you can sometimes get some odd behaviour.
And lastly, under Windows 10 the transmitter should show up as an "HID-complaint game controller" under "Human Interface Devices", and not as an entry under "Universal Serial Bus devices". At least, that is how my X9D appears when I plug it in and it works fine in VelociDrone and LiftOff. I don't have a license for DRL Simulator so I can't test it in that.

OK. So My x9D has OpenTX 2.2.3 and Bootloader 2.1.9. My QX7 has OpenTX 2.2.2 and Bootloader 2.2.2. Neither show up under the HID game controller. All this money on radios and simulators, and nothing works. Maybe time to sell off the FrSky stuff and switch a a controller that isn't quite so flakey.
What about drivers on the computer? I guess my next step will be to wipe windows and reinstall in hopes that it is an unknown driver issue.

The Taranis should work with the universal HID driver.
BTW, what OS are you running?
OS is Windows 10. I have updated the driver, and Windows keeps telling me that the best driver for the device is already installed. Again, it is not showing up in the HID listing, or even as a joystick icon.

Unfortunately, both of my radios are set to Joystick at the moment. Yes, I am connecting the USB after the Taranis boot. I also updated my x9D+ bootloader to 2.2.3. It is now the same as my firmware. My QX7S still has both 2.2.2 versions. Neither show up as an HID listed device. They both show up in one of the Universal Serial Bus devices lists, it has FrSky Taranis Joystick in the Control Panel as "Unspecified" at the bottom..
The Events Tab in Control Panel for the TX says "Device USB\VID_0483&PID_5710\00000000001B was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match. " After researching, lots of people had issues with USB devices after a Win10 update.
Can anyone tell me if they are plugged into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port. One fix for other devices was to get a 2.0 hub, and plug into that. I will keep trying.
I also have windows 10 and I'm pretty sure that I randomly connect to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 and never noticed a problem. I will check my hardware config and test that situation.
USB 2.0 hub didn't fix anything. I believe that I have a conflicting driver(s) somewhere. Going to wipe my system drive and start from a clean windows install. Wish me luck.
OK, clean windows with no other software on the system drive. Attached are screenshots of my Control Panel and Device Manager with the X9D+ plugged in. Note the location of the Frsky Taranis Joystick. My question is: What do I need to install (drivers, bootloader, etc.) and in what order? Please humor a really frustrated guy. Yes, there are piecemeal videos and forum posts, but most are not up dated (some are not even relevant anymore).

Which one and where can I get it? The TaranisWinUSB has not been updated since 2013, and I tried it before and it didn't work. Also, Neither of my radios ever show up as STM32 Bootloader, or STM32 as DFU. Do I need to install the STM32 driver as well?
Just as a note, I have now tried multiple cables, USB ports (both direct and hubs) on both radios. For some reason, my PC is not seeing the device other than as an "Unspecified". If it is not too much trouble, could someone provide reliable, up-to-date links to what driver(s) should be installed?

To the "T" I've had the same problem as you. Mine actually worked before today. I did an update and now it doesnt even show as a game controller anymore. I'm right where this comment left off. Did you ever fix the issue dcc3927?
